Shoes for chunky feet

Has anyone had a problem with finding shoes that fit LO? his feet are not only chunky but he has a really high uppper part of his foot (??dunno what to call it), so most shoes don't fit him at all (I can't push his foot into the shoe)...I want something soft and breathable...I found baby Toms for him at a consignment store, but even those are a tough fit...haaaaaalp!!!

he's also a size 4-5 already lol so that pretty much means toddler shoes I think...

Re: Shoes for chunky feet

  • Payless has wide widths for toddlers.  Have you tried them?

  • I haven't tried Payless yet, but I tried wide width StrideRite shoes that I got at a consignment store...had to return them because the top of his foot wouldn't fit into the shoe...I'll see what they have at Payless, maybe they will work!

I've also tried those stretchy shoes from Target (knockoff Robeez) and the bigger sizes are too long, but the smaller size is too narrow...I was thinking of trying the toddler Converses they have, since they're velcro and might be easier to put on
  • I haven't tried to find shoes for DS, since it's summer, he doesn't walk and it's so hard to find wide shoes. I've been through it with DD though. Even though the foot is extra fat on top, for shoe purposes it's called wide. We did robeez until she was walking. They have some cute shoes and soft soles are best for learning to walk anyway. When she needed real shoes, we went to Stride Rite and had her fitted with an extra extra wide. We did that until she outgrew her fat feet around 2 1/2. Payless is good for cheap, occasion shoes since they carry wide.

  • Look for canvas velcro shoes with a tongue that will pull up so you will have a nice wide opening for foot insertion. The velcro should adjust to fit. Most babies have that adorable pad on the top of their feet. A lot of babies also curl their toes when you try to put shoes on so watch for that it may be why they are difficult to put on.

Livie and Luca shoes run wide so they could be a good choice and the spring and summer styles should be on sale now. Also Bobux brand step-ups are specifically designed for early walkers. We always suggest that LO's have about a finger width at the toe of the shoe to allow for growth.

  • We had to go a size bigger and wider. We bought DS a 5 and it is still a little big but it fits. He has chunky feet that are very wide so it was a challenge for us.
  • Thanks @lesley0228 ! I've actually been eyeing Robeez for a while, so I just ordered him a pair on Zappos :) hopefully they fit! and I guess once he's older and walking we'll have to figure out "real" shoes...

@wheninrome11 I looked at Livie and Luca shoes on Amazon and oh man they're soooo cute! especially the girl ones!
  • I have a #barefootedbaby! Any time he has shoes on, he takes them off and throws them.

We love Robeez for fat feet. DD is a June baby so we used them through the winter/spring to keep her toes warm. My sister has all of my adorable pink ones for her LO now and DS keeps his fat feet in the breeze. :-) I really recommend getting him sized though when he's ready for real walking shoes. Good fitting shoes are vital for new walkers so you want to make sure they are right. It's hard when they are super fat to find shoes that fit well. Stride Rite has awesome customer service, are so helpful and great shoes. The only place I know with extra wide also.

Thanks! I think we will definitely go get him sized for good walking shoes when he's ready, it will probably be part of his 1st Bday present :)
