MOTN Feeds: Do you un-swaddle?

DD is 5 weeks old, and has reflux. She is on Prevacid twice a day (just started last week, so it hasn't really kicked in yet). She is formula fed.

During the day I try to burp her as much as I can during feedings. We swaddle her at night because she is obsessed with her hands. My question is, do you un-swaddle for MOTN feedings? It's really hard to burp her swaddled, but if I take her out of it, her hands are constantly trying to get in her mouth and it is kind of a disaster.

I unswaddle, but I might not if I had issues with LO flailing his arms around.

I unswaddle, partly because she usually manages to loosen it and because she won't eat unless she's in a clean diaper, so we often have a diaper change before eating.

LO flails her arms a lot, so I tuck in the arm closest to me so it's between her body and mine/my arm, if that makes sense. And then encourage her other hand to grip my finger while I'm bottle feeding her.

I don't unless she has a poopy diaper but she usually doesn't poo overnight. It is harder to get a burp while she is all wrapped up but unswaddling her wakes her up too much and she is usually angry when she is being swaddled. She stays in a very sleepy state thru the MOTN feeding if I just keep her bundled up and getting back to sleep is easy

I unswaddle to feed then when she is done feeding I swaddle and then burp her. I just always make sure to turn her head and put her up on my shoulder the best I.can. she doenst seem to mind.

When I was doing MOTN feedings (DD is 9wks and sleeps through the night now

) I unswaddled, changed her diaper, fed her about 2/3 of her feeding, then reswaddled, fed her the remaining 1/3, kept her upright for about ten minutes and then put her back down. I burped her usually one or two times during the feeding.

My LO wakes about 3-4am to eat, he is also formula fed. But he wiggles himself free, so I just take him out and then after his diaper change and feeding I will swaddle him back up. He's really good about falling back to sleep after eating. Also I only get little burps from him during the night. If I get one at all.

I used to unswaddle for his diaper change and then swaddle before feeding. (He is calmer and ready to be put down right after eating this way.) Now I use nighttime diapers and don't do a MOTN diaper change, just a quick feed and back into the bassinet. He is very happy with this routine now.

I unswaddle but I have to change her too. She poops almost every feeding. She's more awake to eat too .

This is exactly why I love the Woombie
It has a top and bottom zipper so her arms stay swaddled and I can change her diaper if I need to. But unless I smell poo I usually don't. Makes MOTN feedings really easy and she usually passes out after.

No, I leave him swaddled. If I unswaddle him he thinks it is morning and time to be up for the day.

I leave him swaddled unless I need to change his diaper. He doesn't poop during the night anymore, so I don't usually have to worry about that.

I always change DS diaper when he wakes up about 3-4 then reswaddle feed him and then burp him. I can still sit him up swaddled and burp then he goes right back down til 7

Thanks everyone! DD doesn't poop in the MOTN anymore either, so the only reason I was taking her out of the swaddle was to burp her easier. But she also thinks that means it's daytime and is really awake. Sometimes I don't even get a burp out of her that way either.

I think I will stick to leaving her in the swaddle, and just trying to get her up on my shoulder with her head turned and try and burp. She usually falls asleep that way too so it makes it easier to keep her upright for the 10 minutes and then put her back to sleep. Thanks again!

I unswaddle only if I need to reswaddle which is rare thanks to the miracle blanket. DD doesn't poop overnight so u haven't had to change her diaper during the night in quite a while. I don't bother burping her either. She's not very gassy. I basically stumble into her room, nurse her, and put her right back.

When we change his diaper we unswaddle and the I make DH reswaddle him (he has diaper duty at night) before I feed him. And I still burp, dream feeding doesn't work with this kid. He gets gas even worse than normal if I do that.

I only unswaddle to change his diaper. Now that I think about it, LO hasn't pooped in the MOTN for days. Then in the AM he has a huge one. I have been changing him after every feed. I thought it would be bad to have him in a wet diaper that long. Sounds like I'm wrong.

I take DD out of her sleep sack. Otherwise she's too warm and comfy to eat and falls asleep after only a minute or two on the boob. I also change her diaper halfway through each feeding. She's a heavy wetter for one thing, and also the diaper change helps wake her back up between sides.

@haylo33‌ I felt bad not changing the diaper at first too but the diapers are so absorbent that she's not uncomfortable. Also if you think about it, soon (hopefully anyway) they'll be sleeping through the night anyways so that diaper will be going trough the night too. As long as LO doesn't poop I think it's ok to just leave it

Unswaddle just to change poopy diapers, which seems to be what a lot of people do. Helps keep him drowsy and easier to put back down to sleep after feeding.

I want to stimulate as little as possible at night so I keep him swaddled. Exceptions to that are needing to change his diaper and if the swaddle has become a mess and needs to be redone.

Our LO hates the summer swaddleme, so we've just been using the a+a blanket to swaddle. As she's getting bigger (6 weeks now) she is starting to bust out more often. What do you all use for swaddling?

I'm so glad that I read this post yesterday. Originally, I'd feed her swaddled, unswaddle to change wet diaper, start to rock back to sleep, change the poopy diaper that has inevitably occurred, swaddle and rock to sleep. This whole process took at least an hour, if not more depending on how alert she was. Last night I kept her swaddled while she ate and immediately rocked her back to sleep without changing her wet diaper. Within 20 minutes she was snoozing again. Thanks ladies!

DD sleeps in the Woombie. I keep her in it and nurse side lying. She usually falls back asleep at the boob. I don't burp her in the night and don't change her diaper unless she pooped, but she never does.
