Pregnant after a Loss

Help - need some advice this morning

Hey ladies,
So, I've been having some very light spotting since Friday (yay holiday weekends!), mostly brown, so I was not worrying too much. Then yesterday afternoon, I started getting lower back pain that reminds me a lot of period pain. So, I called and talked to a nurse this morning. She said it could be perfectly normal or the start of a miscarriage, there's really nothing to do but wait and see if it gets worse. UGH.

Then, she called back and asked if I wanted to come in today for an u/s - my first appt. is scheduled for this Friday - and I said yes! But, here's the big question: I'm thinking I might not be as far along as we think... I may have ovulated late? When I took my first pregnancy test at 4 weeks (should have been first day of period) I got a BFN - didn't get the BFP until 5 weeks. So, if I'm a week behind, will we be able to see anything today?

Any thoughts/ advice would be welcome! I know I'm not thinking clearly right now...

I am mobile, so can't see your siggy. How far along do you think you are today?

If it's 6+ weeks, there's a chance of seeing the heartbeat. Otherwise, you might see the yolk sac/fetal pole.

I'd probably do it for the peace of mind and ask for a f/u scan if you don't see the hb today.

    Good luck!

I'm sorry you are going through this.

I had my 1st u/s at 5 weeks 4 days and we could see the sac-I have history of an EP so we used this u/s to confirm intrauterine pregnancy. Even if you are a few days off, you may still see enough to have an idea of what is going on. I think if it could give you peace of mind, worth a try.

    Good luck!!!

  • I agree that I'd probably go for the u/s. Normally, I think it is better to wait til after 6 wks for peace of mind, but because of the spotting, it seems worth it to see what you can see. I'm sorry this is happening. Spotting is scary, even if all is well!

  • Thanks ladies! I'm definitely going today, and we'll see what we see.

@2redtulips, I'm 6w 2 days today, but I think I'm a week or so behind that. Sounds like we should see something today, and I'll definitely ask about a follow up.

  • I'm glad you're going in for the u/s today. Please keep us updated. T&P's headed your way!
  • My fingers are crossed that things look good today. I know how scary spotting can be.

  • I hoe your u/s goes well. With DD I had an u/s at 5w4d and we were only able to see a sac measuring about 5w, so don't be discouraged if you don't get to see much.

  • Hey ladies - thanks for the awesome support! I did go today, and by the time I got there, most of the pain had gone away. Spotting a bit still though. Couldn't see anything on the u/s. Bloodwork was ordered - I went and had it drawn this afternoon, and will again on Wednesday.

I'm REALLY just hoping that my dates are off - I tend to have a longer cycle. But, talking with the doctor, he was way more focused on the u/s and bloodwork results than he was about the symptoms that actually made me go in early. I almost felt like he didn't believe that I'm actually pregnant. (No, he's not my regular OB, just who was available when my doc got called to the hospital - just my luck! He's not my first choice.)

So, I guess at this point I'm firmly in limbo-land. Hate it. On the positive side, I now only have to panic until Wed., not Friday?

  • I was able to see the gestational sac at 4 wks 6 days, then a yolk save at 5 wks 4 days and the heartbeat at 6 wks 3 days .. It all depends on where you are but hopefully you can at least see the sac for a little re-assurance. Good luck!

  • I'm sorry you're in limbo still. That's so hard! Fx the betas look great and you get a good follow up u/s.

Also, I don't want to alarm you bc ectopic pregnancies are quite rare, but if you do happen to have severe pain, especially if it is on one side, head to the ER to get it checked out. Of course, once you get your follow up next wk and see a little sac in the right place you can totally forget this advice.

    Hugs!!!
