For our ten year anniversary, my in laws are watching the kids. We are flying to Florida to go to the Keys. We will dive, but is there anything else I should do/stay at/eat? What don't miss things do you know of?
-Islamorada Fish Company. Delicious food. Get the pinks if you eat shrimp. They're better then regular shrimp.
-Ernest Hemingway house. We're cat people & I'm an avid reader, so for me, it was really cool.
-Downtown Key West. It's touristy and fun. If you take a trolley tour, you might end up with Jimmy Buffett hanging out and singing some songs like we did. It was pretty much the best day of all time.
We wanted to swim with the dolphins while we were there, but never ended up doing it. DH has family in Islamorada right on the water, so we did a lot of fishing and lounging around and trying to pet the manatees that swam up to their dock.
Deep sea fishing if that is something you guys are into.
I looked up private dinner on the beach because that is one of our favorite splurges when vacationing. I found this which is a couples massage followed by private dinner:
Well, you guys rock. Thank you. I can't think of a thing on that list that doesn't sound amazing (except the fishing because I did that once as a kid and cried when my fish died. Thank you again!!!!
I know you said you don't like fishing, but we went shark fishing with this guy the last time we were in the Keys - you get to hold the sharks (and my husband caught a huge barracuda), then release them back into the water. It was AMAZING. https://www.catch-em-all.com/
And if you're coming in through Miami, I recommend making some time for an Everglades tour, I recommend getting lunch and a pedicure in the back garden of the Fountainebleau hotel.
Other than that, you can't go wrong just parking yourself in Key West, grabbing a drink, and taking in the people watching.
We drove through the Everglades on our way back to Tampa when we were down there. FYI, gators can run. Quickly. Don't be an idiot and get out of your car so you can take pictures of them when they're laying basking in the sun on the side of the road. They will chase you. :-)
