Pregnant after a Loss

Lovenox (and the like) users come in...

So, I'm midly terrified to start my Lovenox injections tomorrow morning.  After a production with my pharmacy and then finally DH picking them up because I was going to cut a bitch if they weren't ready tonight, they are currently in my hot little hands.  I know they are just helping my little one, but I'm just nervous as hell to give myself a shot in the stomach everyday!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated from any ladies who have used this type of assistance during their pregnancy.  :)

  • I don't start til Thursday so no advice. But my cousin assures me they're not as bad as you think. The first time is hardest. I had to do my own trigger injection a couple weeks ago and it was way easy. Didn't even hurt. You can do it!

Thanks, love!! I was supposed to be nannying tonight and would not have been at my own house to do it tomorrow morning so I'm feeling MUCH better about it now that I will be home and DH will help.

    Also, CONGRATS AGAIN!! :)

  • @PugLife5869‌, good idea about the little calendar...I was trying to figure something out for myself to help keep track and that makes sense. I might have DH do it if he's not too sleepy in the morning. And good to have the slowly reiterated. Thank you!!

  • I'm not on lovenox, but I'm on heparin - 1 inject twice a day. I was terrified doing the first one. But I promise you, just like everyone says. it's not as bad as you're making it out in your head and soon it becomes no big deal. Good luck tomorrow! Keep breathing and I promise you that you can do this!

I find an ice pack helps. I ice first, swab area with alcohol, inject (you may need to try different angles, I find if I inject straight, at like a 90 degree angle, I bruise, but if I go in at a 45 degree angle, not bad), swab area angle with alcohol, and ice again. Icing also has kept the sting from the lovenox at bay. The only time I ever bled was if I injected too close to an already bruised area. I never need a bandaid. I do have a lot of lumpy areas from injections, and probably about 4 bruises on any given day, but not too terrible. I don't wear bikinis anyway! Good luck! Find a routine that works best for you, and you won't find it too hard.

  • Havent been on the receiving end of the needle. But as a nurse, I have used this a lot and had patients demonstrate the self injection. The good news is the needle is really small and super sharp to keep the pain minimal. Keep the air bubble up to lock in the medicine, push it all the way in. The syringe has a springloaded needle- so it is supposed to retract on its own at the end of the injection. I have found that part hit or miss. Sometimes it works great, sometimes I have pulled it out and used 2 hands to push hard enough to get it to work :-)
You can so do this! The idea of it is scary, but you will be okay with the reality, I bet. GL ;)

  • ****lurking from TTCAL****

I had to do Lovenox shots a few years ago following a major knee/shin surgery. I did them twice a day for 3 weeks. It took a few days to master it but I didn't find it to be as bad as I had anticipated. I found that laying flat helped. Also I would make sure I didn't do consecutive shots in the same area. Good luck!!!
  • I inject insulin and I agree with pp: fast stab and slow push of med. You've got this!! Promise.
