On Thursday contractions started while I was working, but not close enough to time. After work I had a nail appointment and while I was sitting there they got stronger. After that they went away for a few hours during dinner and came back around 8pm but still not too close.
I woke up around 11:00 and the contractions were about 6 minutes apart and kept on coming! I didn't want to go to the hospital just to be sent home so I was planning on holding out as long as I could.
Around 2:30 I woke up to go to the bathroom and felt a small gush. So I jumped in the bathtub to make sure it's what I thought it was. My water broke!! I stood there for a little bit and yelled to my husband that I thought my water broke and I needed a washcloth. I still didn't want to go to the hospital to early so we took our time getting ready and then left.
We got there, got into triage and I was hooked up to a machine to track my contractions. They wanted to track me for a hour due to baby's heartbeat dropping during my contractions. They ended up thinking this was due to her cord being pinched while I was contracting. I got sick a few times, they checked me and I was about 4 to 5cm and after an hour we were admitted to L&D.
After I got wheeled into my room I was checked by the nurse and I was dilated to 5cm. So she asked about what I wanted for pain and I told her we talked about an epidural. She continued to set up and my contractions got stronger. So after being in our room for about 10 minutes she checked me again and I was at 10cm. This is where the fun beings!
After she checked me she announced that there was no time for pain meds and I was going to have to start pushing. She called the doctor and told her I was ready to push and to get there fast. A couple minutes go by and the doctor shows up and gets set up in time for a contraction to hit and it was time to push!
After about 6 minutes of contractions/pushing and 3 good pushes later baby arrived!! And on her due date!
When I heard I wasn't getting any meds I was pissed and scared, but it turned out great and I'm glad that I was able to do it without. I was never one of those women who thought I should try childbirth naturally, but it was empowering to know I can do it and I was so glad to have my rainbow baby! She's amazing and I'm so glad she's finally here.
