Introduction and AF Question

Hi Ladies,

I was a regular on 3TC and PAIF but haven't been on the boards since giving birth to LO. I wanted to re-introduce myself over here. We welcomed LO on Thanksgiving day (very fitting) of this year and she is now 7 months old.

A little background on me is that I have PCOS and didn't have periods or ovulate on my own before medication (clomid and follistim). I am still breastfeeding LO and I am wondering if you breastfed, how long did it take AF to return once you stopped? Or did it return while you were still breastfeeding?

DH is eager to try again for a second child whenever we can (I am too) but I had to explain to him that I most likely 1) wouldn't get AF back until after I stopped breastfeeding and 2) that given my history I probably won't get AF back even when I do stop breastfeeding.

I would love to hear anyone's experience with this!

It took me about a month and a half after I stopped breast feeding to get AF back. I breastfed my son for 9 months. Welcome and good luck to you!

#1- BF for 8 months and AF returned 5 days after I completely weaned. I did a very slow wean over 6wks. I probably could have gotten AF back still BFing 1-2x a day.

#2- BF for 13 months. Got AF when he was 10.5 months old. He was nursing 3x a day at that point.

I also have PCOS. I do ovulate on my own but usually late CD 20-40.

I did not have PCOS, but my cycles returned about 3 months post-partum while exclusively breastfeeding. Lucky me, ha! They were a little irregular, but not by much. I will say that I know of a few others who were breastfeeding, with no AF, and had a surprise pregnancy. So it's possible. Good luck with #2!

I have PCOS-not typical, but my amh is very high. Before having dd, I would get a period every 3-4 months. I never got a pp period. I BFed for 13 months and when I went back to the RE to start ttc #2, my labs showed no cycle in sight.

Congrats and welcome! My periods returned 12 weeks pp while BFing. They were regular until I weaned and my cycles got much shorter.

I don't have PCOS, but I was full-time BFing (no solid food or formula) and I got my period back at around 6mo pp. in fact, AF shows up mocking me each month like before.

I bf ds for 14 months and never got a pp period. I finally induced it with provera when I needed to get testing done to cycle. I don't have pcos but I have irregular, long cycles.

Congrats and welcome! I have PCOS and didn't ovulate on my own. I BFed #1 for 17 months, my cycle returned at 8 months. I had 2 wonky 6 week cycles, then a surprise BFP! FX for you for #2!

Welcome! Sounds like I have the same issues as you (PCOS, Insulin resistant, no ovulation) except Clomid didn't work for me. I breastfed for the 1st year and only had one period during that time. Once I finished bfding I waited three month then had my re (Shady Grove) do all the same test to see if anything had changed after having a baby. They checked my uterus with a dye to make sure all was open and good to go and did all my blood test. Nothing changed so trying on our own wasn't an option. So we went straight back to treatments when ready.
