Sunblock recs for eczema

Hi all!  I need some help, my DS has pretty bad eczema on his legs and inside elbows.  I have tried multiple kinds of sunscreen and they seem to be making the eczema worse.  I've tried Neutrogena baby, Aveeno baby and banana boat.  All with the same results.  I plan to make a doc apt, but I was hoping you guys could give some tried and true recommendations!

TIA!

  • Have you tried a mineral sunscreen?  I don't have personal experience but that would be my best bet.  Badger is a really good brand.

This website is great.  I don't think it has anything about eczema but it has a lot of great info on sunscreen in general.

I would try a 'natural' sunscreen rather than a big brand like you've named. Badger, Arbonne Baby, California Baby, Green Beaver etc. might be good to try.

ETA: FWIW DD does not have sensitive skin but Aveeno products have always made her red; I can't imagine what it'd do to eczema.

  • You guys are awesome!  Thank you so much for all of the responses!  We have a doc apt on Wednesday, so I'm going to bring this list with and see what he recommends.

  • I just ordered the baby badger...anyone like that? DS doesn't have it too bad. His face will break out sometimes and that is what has me concerned about sunscreens. I'd be afraid it would burn soo much. Op I use coconut oil to help heal DS from breakouts. Have you tried that? It is like miracle in a jar. No joke!

I haven't tried coconut oil yet!  Right now I'm using Aquaphor and Cortisone cream over that.  It usually clears it up quickly, but with the constant reapplying of sunscreen the next day or bug spray....it has gotten worse.  :(  And now he is starting to scratch it - he's never gotten to that point before.

  • Vanicream was a god send for us! You have to ask the pharmacist for it (or order online) but it was the first sunblock that didn't break out my boys and flare their eczema. Attaching a link:
