Using an aspirator

DS has a wicked cold and has a lot of mucus in the back of his throat and in his nose.  This sounds crazy but I'm trying to use the aspirator and I'm having zero luck.  I don't know if I'm doing it right.  I was told to try and suction it out in their cheek but the mucus is in the back of his throat.  Can I try to suction it out directly from the back or is that dangerous?

Re: Using an aspirator

  • Am I reading that correctly?

I have never heard of suctioning the throat. Not something I would do...

Maybe I am not up to date though.

  • I wouldn't! I only use it on the nose.
  • Nose aspirator's suck (no pun intended) - but seriously - they never work.  My sister in law told me about the Nas Frida (or Nose Frida) - invented in Sweeden - it is the greatest thing for suctioning the boogies and snots.  www.nosefrida.com

The concept and looks of it look absolutely disgusting and I thought my sister-in-law was crazy for tellnig me about this thing.  But it is totally safe and I swear that my DD welcomes it now cause she knows the relief she is going to get.

  • we use Little Noses Saline solution.  it loosens up the mucus so it is easier to suck out with the bulb.  GL
