3rd Trimester

so effing p!ssed at my ob/gyn practice

i had my 36 week appt today at 12.45. at 11.15, i was nearby the office so i called to see if they could take me early. they told me, "no problem! c'mon in!" so off i went and arrived at 11.20. In the meantime, I moved our home visit appt with the doula from 2.30 up to 1pm since we'd presumably be done with the doctor.

WELL. At 12.30, I was still sitting in the (packed standing-room-only) waiting room, and still hadn't been seen for the doctor. At this point, we're close to my original appt time and I'd been waiting over an hour! And they'd been telling me since noon that I would be the next one called (as 5 different people went ahead of me). By 12.45, I couldn't wait anymore b/c my doula was going to be standing on my doorstep. They were closing early for the holiday, aren't open tomorrow AND don't see patients at the office on Friday. So I missed my 36 week appt b/c my 37 week appt is already scheduled for Monday morning at 7.05am.

I was TOTALLY unimpressed with how the front office handled the whole thing, and no one even apologized for the colossal inconvenience and miscommunication. This is the 2nd time in back-to-back appts they've done this. Obviously I'm not going to switch doctors this close to my due date, but it leaves a really bad impression. PLUS - I haven't had even a single conversation with my practice about labor/delivery and what their philosophies are about certain things I'm concerned about or even what their procedures are (ie., when to call!!). If I went into labor this weekend, I'd be completely clueless about what they were doing.

GRRRRR. Had to vent. Sorry.

  • Ok, see, this makes me think even more that I should stay with my current doc.  I NEVER wait more than 5 minutes except for one time when the receptionist screwed up and didn't check me in, and that time I only waited like 20 minutes.

  • Oh that sucks.  I would be pissed too... I usually wait abnout 5-10 minutes.  Once I had to wait 45 minutes, but it was because the nurse forgot about me.

  • Um, has it crossed your mind to initiate conversation about their philosophies and what procedures to follow in the event you think you are in labor?? Every time i see my doctor they ask if i have questions so I took it upon myself to actually ask
  • I here you I had issues a few times of waiting an hour after my appt time to be seen then another 15 minutes in the office until the dr came in . . .  I never complained purely b/c I think that they realize that and are nicer to me now thats why I always make sure I have the day off if I have an appt just in case.  Boo drs!
