Birthday party poll

I know most of you have had your one year old's parties. I have a July baby, but you guys are where I call home (June due date).

For those that had parties, did you open gifts while everyone was there? We are expecting 35-40 people and I don't see DD staying still long enough to open all of the presents.

I clearly haven't been to a 1 year old party in a LONG time and don't know the etiquette :)

TTC since August 2011 (Me-29, DH-32).
4/28/2012 - SA: 5% motility.
5/21/2012 - SA: same results.
Only shot is IVF (ICSI)
5/31/2012 - HSG: all clear
6/22/2012 - appt with RE, confirmed ICSI is necessary.
8/3/2012 - First IVF Monitoring Appointment
8/17/2012 - Egg Retrieval (retrieved 23 eggs, 3 made it to freezer)
8/18/2012 - OHSS - hospitalized, need to wait one cycle to transfer embryo(s) due to OHSS
8/29/2012 - begin meds for frozen cycle
10/12/2012 - FET one embryo
10/24/2012 - Beta #1: 442
10/26/2012 - Beta #2: 947
10/29/2012 - Beta #3: 2900!
11/15/2012 - first u/s: baby measuring perfect, heart rate is right on target
2/6/2013 - A/S looked perfect. Still team green by choice!
7/6/2013 - Baby girl born after 44 hours of un-medicated labor, 2 hours of pushing, and emergency c-section due to transverse head.  DD was perfectly healthy at 6 pounds, 14 ounces.  We are thrilled!!

    We opened gifts pretty late into the party. I know that all the older relatives really wanted to see the gifts.

    DD opened about 3 gifts before she had enough. We opened the rest with most people still there.

    I opened them while LO chased tissue paper around me. Everyone wanted to see what he got.

    We did all the gifts in front of everyone. Towards the end it was getting hard to keep Grayson focused so we ended up just opening them for him while he played with a football that he had gotten.

    We opened all the gifts in front of everyone. I personally believe gifts should be opened in front of the guests at any gift-giving occasion, other than a wedding. LO was pretty tired by the gift-opening, so we just opened them for him. I know there were people there who specifically wanted us to make sure we opened their gift before they left.

    We did, but we also had a very small gathering, so it didn't take all that long.  Everybody really loved seeing LO play with the boxes/bags/etc.

    We opened all the gifts, but we didn't have a big party. Just family, so it wasn't too much or too stressful. If she hadn't made it through all of them no one would have minded if we set them aside and did it later. I think @melOHdy‌ 's idea is great! Getting slightly older Littles to help open the presents would make it way faster and probably get the bday boy/girl much more into it :)

    Great idea! We will have some little kids there, so that should help.

    DDs party is Saturday, so we will see how it goes. Thanks everyone!

    We opened presents while his party was still going on - but it was really close to the end.  And I enlisted his cousins (they are 8 and 10) to help with the opening - lord knows B wasn't going to actually open any himself.

    We opened in front of everyone. Everyone was eager to see what she got. Had over 50 people there. She opened some with my help and the rest we had little helpers sitting around us ready to help which made it go by faster
