Pumping at work

Dd wont take medela bottles so I considered taking her born free bottles to work and dump right in after pumping to send to daycare the next day. Can you put the medela bottles, after milk is dumped out, In the fridge to use for the next pump like you do pump parts or no?

If I dont do this and pump 3 times at work do you take 6 bottles or is there an easier way of doing this? !

Re: Pumping at work

  • Thank you for the input. The only reason im considering dumping into the bottles she is actually using is bc ive seen how the fat sticks to the side when cold so I figured id save a lil extra fat by doing it that way possibly! I like your routine tho and am probably going to try that!

    Thanks again!

Sure, you can store empty but used bottles in fridge for reuse between pumping.  You can also combine milk from multiple pumping as long as the milk is the same temp.

When I was pumping at work 3 times, I took 4 bottles.

    • Pump 1: Pumped into bottles 1 and 2, combined into bottle 1, refrigerated everything.
    • Pump 2: Pumped into bottles 2 and 3, combined into bottle 2, refrigerated everything.
    • Pump 3: Pumped into bottles 3 and 4, combined into bottle 3, refrigerated everything.

When I got home, we washed Leah's DC bottles, portioned out pumped milk for the next day, and then washed all the pumping stuff.

My routine is the exact same, as well as the using warm water to release the fat when portioning out the next day's bottles. I have found this to be the most efficient way. Good luck!

You could also look into purchasing an adapter which will work with the pump and your bottles to pump directly into the bottles. I have the Avent ones since that is the only bottle LO will take. I pretty much follow @casey78 but I pump into one Avent bottle and one Medela bottle and then combine into the Avent before refrigerating. Except for first pump in the morning I pump into 2 Avent bottles since that is when I get the most output.
Whoever is giving the bottle will swirl it to incorporate the fat (since it's easier when warm or at room temp) before feeding to LO.
