Monday Morning Vents

I am sad the long weekend is over.  We had lots of great family time which included playing outside and swimming....back to reality.

I am having major anxiety about a layoff that is occurring tomorrow.  It is an employee who has reported to me for about 8 months.  She has worked here for 20+ years and pretty much been able to get away with murder.  We are eliminating her position by redistributing duties and also to help with budget issues.  She is just a difficult person in general so I am dreading it. I feel conflicted because honestly, I will be relieved for her not to be here anymore, but of course I am human and have feelings so I feel bad about it.

  • DD was an absolute beast this morning. She always is the day after XH leaves (he visited over the holiday weekend and left yesterday). Defiant at every turn. The WORST she has ever been. I was thisclose to absolutely losing my shit on her but I know she's acting out because she's upset that her dad left. I was sooooooo glad to leave her at summer camp this morning...especially since her antics caused me to be 30 minutes late to work.

  • @jellybean529‌ -I'm sorry to hear that. Co parenting sucks. We had a fabulous weekend. Swimming, a pool party, time at the park feeding ducks. But I'm staying home with the kids this week. And that's hard. Also, trying to potty train a defiant 2 year old really sucks. She doesn't mind how wet panties feel apparently. And I can only get her to sit on the potty by letting her play a potty game I downloaded on my iPad. In fact, I'm charging up my old iPad now and it's going to be hers. Just for potty training. (Omg, I'm a person who is bribing my 2 yo with an iPad to potty train. How did I become this person???)
  • @MommyAtty - potty training is hard, so whatever works is OK in my book!

Ugh, I feel like a biotch today.  I have a staff who is incredibly co-dependent.  She just called me because her deadbeat boyfriend's brother suddenly died and she can't calm herself down because she is so upset about it.  I think she has invested waaayy to much into this guy's family, which has converted in me telling her to not drive today, spend the day at home, then decide what she needs to do tomorrow.  Bereavement is one day for a non-related person, I'm going to stick to that, she can take vacation for the remainder. I'm not willing to be the shoulder for her to cry on.

  • The beginning of the long weekend was great. Got to spend time with husbands family and got a project done in the yard.
It was yesterday that it went downhill. Ds2 had fallen and hit his head on cement Saturday night but seemed fine. Overnight he woke up kind of cranky and felt warm so I gave him Tylenol. In the morning he didn't have a fever but also wasn't quite himself thinking it was just teeth off we went to church to see my husband off with the youth group for a week. I took ds2 to the nursery for church service, when I picked him up he was snuggling and they commented he was pulling on his ear. He felt really warm so I called the pediatrician to come in. When we got to the office his to was 103.3 and he was diagnosed with hand foot and mouth. Cue a breakdown from mommy as it all hit me.
The rest of the day wasn't to bad as ds1 took a long nap so I was able to get a cat nap in. Then at 1145 last night the smoke detector started going off cause the one in the basement backup battery was dying. This woke ds1 up and it was after 1 and letting him sleep in bed with me ( which we don't usually allow) to get h back to sleep.

Luckily my mil could come over this morning allowing me to run into work and to the grocery store. My sister has been staying with is for the summer while she works at a camp, and will be back tonight from a weekend at the beach. So some help is on the way, but still not the same as dh. Just hoping ds1 or myself don't get it (but mentally preparing that we will).
  • Actually I feel better today than I have in a long time. Enjoyed all the extra weekend time with DD - I think her current age suits me much more than infancy!  DH and I fought a few times over the weekend but managed to calm down and get back in sync.  That came complete with a "I stand corrected", from DH! Go Me for doing my research and standing my ground and showing DH the facts! THank you internet.

I'm about to have a 1:1 with my douche manager so it is likely that all my positivity is about to go out the window.  I might have to come back to this post to remind me of all the reasons I have to be happy!

  • The weekend rocked and was 4 days for me so it is extra hard to be here and focused today.

What is also making it extra hard is that my boss was out last week and since she treats me like her personal assistant even though I'm a director, she was literally at my desk at 8:32 telling me I need to update her on everything that went on last week.  WTF?  I hadn't even looked at my email and she was referring to emails already at 8:33.   Just because you have no life and live to work doesn't mean I do.

  • @nursebride2be‌ -Mine had hand, foot, and mouth while I was on mat leave! Almost-2 yo spiked a crazy high fever and was covered in spots! But she seemed to feel good the entire time. DS, who was 4 wks, had a slight fever, a few spots, none in his mouth, and never seemed off at all. Doc did say they don't even recommend keeping them away from other kids bc it is just so stinking contagious. But adults virtually never get it unless their immune systems are compromised or very weak.
