• Happy (almost) 4th of July!

I am so excited about my appointment on Thursday. I love to check in on the LO and am excited to see if we are team pink or team blue.

Nothing else really going on this week. I have a sinus infection which is making me miserable, but it is slowly getting better. I am really stinking tired all the time which is getting old. Second tri has not provided a boost of energy as every one promised it would.

QOTW: Hmmmm....We usually grill hamburgers and make homemade French fries. I love them both!

• Yesterday my husband and I celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary. It was surreal to think that we will finally be parents next year for our anniversary!
Nothing really new to report. My AFP test came back in the normal range but the lab ran it as a single pregnancy not a multiple. So now its the waiting game again as I await the real results.... I'm hoping they don't change too much :) That would be the 2nd best news we have received this pregnancy the first being we were pregnant. Since then every time we go to MFM they find another problem. I wish I could boycott MFM. Next appointment is July 15th with MFM and 18th with my GYN.

QOTW: Anything on the grill. I have been having a hard time eating burgers this pregnancy but thats not going to stop me on Friday! Happy 4th everyone :)

• Hi ladies! This is my first 2nd tri check in, too! I'll be 15 weeks tomorrow. My EDD is December 24. We don't have another appointment until our 16 week appointment next week and then our A/S is at 20 weeks. This pregnancy is flying by, which is fine with me because it hasn't been drama free at all.

QOTW: I love deviled eggs and hotdogs (which I miss a lot!) on a puffy, unhealthy, white bun with lots of ketchup and mustard. OH, my mouth is watering!

@Ashris13 thanks for the check-in! I didn't start to feel regular movement that I was sure was movement until some time between 19-20 weeks. As soon as it started it became constant though and now just a couple of weeks later I can actually see movement through my stomach in addition to feeling it daily. I'm sure you'll feel it soon!

I don't really have any updates this week, still having a hard time finding daycare that will work but did get on a few center wait lists although I'd prefer to find an in-home provider. Feeling/seeing the baby move lots daily now, which is cool! Next appointment is next week.

QOTW- I'm a pseudo-vegetarian (sometimes eat fish) so I eat boring stuff like veggie burgers and the occasional shrimp skewer or BBQ salmon. My favorite cookout food is probably pie, I love pie, it's my favorite dessert!

• This is sort of a womp-womp update. I was hoping to use short term disability for part of my maternity leave - and use it for the week or two prior to delivery of the twins. I've never had STD before, and I was excited to enroll in it to use it for maternity leave. Our new benefits take effect Sept 1st.
Today I found out that I am not eligible to use short term disability this year, even if I enroll in it. The plan considers my pregnancy a "pre-existing condition" :( So now I don't have any paid leave, and I'm not sure how I'm going to afford any of my time off. I don't exactly have a lot of time to "save up" at this point, plus yesterday at my OB appt, she mentioned that she might pull me out of work prior to our scheduled C-section. I don't know what I'm going to do :( I have a few sick days, so I can use those, but the rest will be unpaid time off....and I'm the breadwinner in the family. So I've been crying about that all morning.. I hate insurance!

as for 4th of July.. I like hamburgers, hotdogs, the usual.

• Hi Everyone,
Not much to report. I am feeling the baby moving a lot which is awesome. I also am coming down with a cold (super sore throat) which is kind of scary. I'll go to the doctor tomorrow if I get worse. Anybody with this experience?
QOTW: I love ribs but had some this weekend and we'll be camping (as long as I feel better) so probably no ribs for the Fourth.

• Ashris13@freakyfast – 12/20/14 – Welcome! Are you planning on waiting till the end to find out the gender? Or will you eventually ask? I actually did ask for the sex results a week ago, and when she sent them i moved them into a folder. So I have them, we just haven't looked at it yet. We might look on my birthday which is Monday.
Hello All! Hope everyone has a great week and great holiday.
I am 15w3d. No appointments until July 10th.

Hello ladies! I'm 16w1d today and feeling great overall. Since last Friday I've been feeling a little bit of pressure on my cervix. It's very mild and only last for a few minutes. Called the OB and the nurse said it could be normal but if I'm worried I could go in for a cervix check. Work is kinda crazy this week so I decided to wait it out. I haven't felt pressure today and listening to the HB w/my doppler is keeping me calm.

Got a call this morning from the hospital saying our integrated screening results were negative and chance of LO having Down's syndrome is 1/50,000. I moved my A/S one day up to the 15th because of work so I'll find out the sex in exactly two weeks from today. We're actually gonna find out but not right away. It will be revealed later that Saturday after MILs surprise bday party.

I'm not sure if that was really baby moving last week. I felt something similar over the weekend and yesterday that was coming from the inside of my stomach, I guess we'll see.

QOTW: My fav cookout food is chicken wings! Hubby has a secret recipe for ginger soy honey wings and they are delicious! Yum

• Thanks for the great check-in @Ashris13!! I agree the/se kid/kiddos don't realize that we want to feel them. . .it is a sign of comfort.

@Aurora1181. . .I feel your pain. I was told first I qualified, then I didn't. It is heartbreaking when the rug gets pulled out from under you on things like that. Needless to say, I was POed beyond belief & have gone on countless rants to DH about our appalling system.

AFM: I'm 20w6d today. Starting to really feel & look like I'm pregnant. Yes, people (i.e. strangers) are being 'nicer' to me. The dr office and I have been playing phone tag about my u/s results. Although, I have to admit I initiated the call this week. Although on my online chart it says the a/s results are still pending. Not sure if they really are but that is what a phone call is for right? Other than that I don't have my next appointment until July 21st. But I have a friend throwing me a baby shower for one of my last trips to MI (it was home for the last 7 years) then my cousin & best friend from high school are throwing me one in Sept. So everyone is on me for shower stuff. . .it is good because it helps me be distracted. It is all making this feel so very, very, real!!

QOTW: Hamburger and/or cheeseburger with lots of pickles and ketchup from the grill are always my favorite. Happy early 4th everyone! And for those in Canada. . .Happy Canada Day (today)!

• Love the personalized check in! Well I actually had my anatomy scan today, it was a little early because I had an usually high hormone come back on my 2nd tri screening. My AFP came back at 5.87, so that can mean one of the babies has a placenta defect, spina bfida, a hole in the abdominal or other things. Luckily they were able to get me in today and I am happy to say that both babies look fantastic, their words.

There is still the possibility of a placenta defect so I will go in for growth scans every 4wks after 24wks. Which I think is wonderful because I worry about them so much and I hope I am getting enough monitoring.

QOTW: I don't think I have a fav type of cookout food. And I'm not for sure on our plans for the 4th. We usually go to Disneyland but this year we didn't make plans to go.

• @aurora1181 - I'm so sorry you're dealing with that! I agree, benefits can be so crappy. A girl I work with was getting screwed because our contractor switched last October (although she's been with us for years in that position) and she was due in August so she couldn't use her STD and didn't qualify for maternity leave since she hadn't "been with the company" for a year. To make matters worse, she ended up giving birth mid July due to a problem with the baby and is now in the NICU out of town. I feel so bad for her!

@Ashris13‌ thanks for another great check in! I hope you find a glider. They are brutally expensive, especially if you are hoping for comfortable.

@badrianne‌ I got really sick 1st Tri. Doc put me on safe antibiotics and a daughter cough syrup. I was in bed from Saturday til I went back on thurs. it was brutal but the rest was needed.

Edited because I forgot to actually update!

Not a whole lot this week. My FIL flew in tonight. Boys start on nursery tomorrow. They are ripping down all drywall and insulation. I picked out a light shade of blue for the room "serene sky". They asked I make myself scarce once they start. All the dust & stuff. Works for me, my BFF is in town with her kids from Florida. I have an excuse to ditch the work. & go play lol.

QOTW: I love it all! Cheeseburgers, hot dog (miss my Nathan's or sabrets!), BBQ ribs, deviled eggs, moms cucumber salad! Yum yum yum!

I actually managed to check in on time at 22w2d. Not much going on these past couple of weeks. Next bit of excitement is the one hour glucose test and a repeat blood count in about 2 weeks or so.

Have been getting rounder and feeling the flips and turns of the small one. Some days it's like a little invader. DH still hasn't felt movement yet, soon we hope.

Wandered through Target's baby gear section one day and DH got overwhelmed by car seat and stroller options. Haven't even looked at cribs yet. :))

QOTW: grilled fruit (peaches, pineapple) is super tasty! In addition to the usual hamburger and hot dogs.

Edited for typo.

Thank you again, @Ashris13 :) Glad to hear that your a/s went well! Totally get it - Although I think it's relatively early for me to feel movement but I've seen people on the web feel it by 17 weeks so I kept thinking I may have felt something, but what I'm feeling is nothing like what people say it feels like. My OB says 20-22 weeks is totally normal though, especially if it's your first. Maybe next week's check-in you'll be reporting back that you definitely felt it!

I'm 17+3 today and feeling rather rotund. I used to walk the stairs on my commute to work, then moved to walking the elevator, and these days I stay on the right side the entire ride up. :\"> I finnnnally told my boss this past week, and he immediately told me he already knew, lol. Oh well. I'm really glad that's out of the way. I'm still deciding between my original and my newest OB. I feel like I'm cheating on the first one, but I'm going to see her another time next week, and then decide.

QOTW: I love all the sides that go along with a BBQ - potato salad, pasta salad, baked beans and not the actual meat. I have no problem filling myself up though! Have a happy and safe 4th, ladies! Next year, we'll be able to have some booze!

Pregnancy Ticker
• Hi everyone. It's always nice to read everyone's updates and to see us all moving forward is really a miracle in itself.

I did however have a really tough day yesterday. I reached 26 weeks yesterday, despite my ticker below being off by a few days. At my OB appointment, I found out I failed my one hour glucose test and because my reading was so high, they aren't even going to confirm with a 3-hour test. I need to meet again next week for an hour's appt. to learn to read my blood sugars and testing equipment was called in for me to the pharmacy. I then was given anitbiotics for a severe UTI that is making me have accidents throughout the day in my clothes which is such a bother, but mainly the pain/burning is what is getting to me most. 5x a night for the bathroom and 2x an hour right now. They said symptoms should improve. I also hit a number on the scale that floored me.

Then, she reminded me I am 40 years' old, carrying multiples, in my 1st pregnancy, with blood pressure issues and now gestational diabetes. That all being said....be prepared most likely for a scheduled c-section.

My husband was there and wanted me to focus on the positives.

1. We heard both babies' heartbeats.
2. My thyroid bloodwork levels came back normal......had my thyoid removed back in 2001 and had a dosage increase during this pregnancy.
3. I've only gained 14 lbs now so far and have had good growth from the stomach measurements and the growth scans at the hospital.....he said not to worry about seeing two zero zero. It's just hard because I had started at a higher weight due to all the stress of IF and the fertility meds over a year's time.
4. C-sections turn out healthy babies all the time
5. My blood pressure was normal at yesterday's appointment and they are NOT putting me on any blood pressure meds.
6. We were headed to our first birthing class tonight

I was glad to have him there. He is definitely a voice of reason when I need to hear it. It's just hard in thinking, "Wasn't all we've been through enough? Why do I keep getting hit with more issues?" I just wish something was normal in our journey to parenthood.

If this wasn't all enough, I found out that the baby shower that was supposed to be set for July somehow will not be happening then. It is now happening when I will be 33 weeks along and sadly, at my home, and without my husband being consulted on the guest list. I was so upset and just want it cancelled. I won't have time to write thank you notes, wash and organize gifts, and make returns. I go back to school within days of that time and already had a ton of obligations my husband I were saying no to in order to slow down and take a break before the twins come. This now means the house has to be "company ready" and puts more stress on my husband to have to clean and get things organized. My sister tried to tell me that they couldn't plan it due to everyone's vacations. So what! Do I get a vacation this year? NO! No one took my wishes into consideration and the list doesn't even include people who I would really want to see. She offered to have the shower AFTER the twins are born. Both are just not good options. I don't know that I will be comfortable to sit for that long for my shower in late August and also with the births of twins being such an unknown, and a longer recovery with a c-section, I don't want the stress of all that after the boys arrive. I am just ready to have them cancel it entirely and take the registry down. My husband understands and said he'd talk to my sisters today. I just am so disheartened that I feel like an after thought. No one listened or planned with my needs in mind. I also think back to my bridal shower....I was just recovering from gall bladder surgery and was on a great deal of pain meds. It was so hard to get comfortable and enjoy my shower. They even had to cancel my girl's night gathering ...supper out with all my friends....before the wedding to my emergency surgery and recovery.

Yes, I feel like I am at a pity party right now and just don't want to speak with any of my sisters right now. Hearing about everyone else's needs and feeling like no one is thinking of mine is just beyond upsetting. Then to hear "what did you expect? You're carrying twins." when I mentioned the gestational diabetes. Just a horrible day yesterday.

Thanks for letting me vent.

• Hello! I'm 15 weeks and 5 days and desperately waiting for this second tri energy burst. I'm afraid it's not coming :( I wound up back at the OB for ultrasounds last week for what turned out to be just plain old fashioned round ligament pain. I have ultrasound number 9 on Monday with the MFM, so hopefully everything will look good. I had partial placenta previa at last week's ultrasound, but the OB promised me it will almost certainly resolve since it's so early. I'm crossing my fingers that it will look better, not worse, on Monday.

QOTW: I love grilled hot dogs, but DH hasn't gotten the grill cleaned or prepped for the season yet. Which is kind of sad, given that it's July. But, if he gets the grill ready, and we can run to Trader Joe's and get some nitrate free ones, I'm totally having hot dogs!

@mmhopeful I'm sorry that you had a tough day, and sorry about the GD and c-section news. Sending hugs! I also don't think you're being unreasonable at all about being disappointed about your shower. I had to tell my sister no when she proposed throwing the shower when I'll be 33 weeks due to fears about possible issues or discomfort in the last 2 months, and I'm only carrying 1 baby with no known complications (knock on wood). And they definitely shouldn't be pressuring you to have it at your own house. Couldn't they have it at a restaurant or church hall or something? Anyone else's house? A virtual shower even? It's nice that they're throwing you a shower but it's not very thoughtful to not consider your needs in the planning since you're the guest of honor.

I think I've been feeling the baby's movement these last two weeks, but have also been having small staby pains occasionally that I'm going to see my MW about tomorrow. Hoping it's just round ligament pain like others say they're feeling around this time.

QOTW: We'll probably be having brats & beer this Friday (very Wisconsin of us) but I'm really looking forward to some fresh watermelon and strawberries this year. If I have time I'll also make some pies since that's sounding pretty good too.

I've been popping in from the 3rd Tri checkin to read the updates here every week...and just had to send big {{{{{{hugs}}}}}} to @mmhopeful - that is a lot to handle all at once! So glad to hear that your hubby is being so supportive and understanding. I'm sorry that your sisters aren't - hopefully they will listen to reason. If they won't, you've every right to cancel the shower. And you could even tell (or ask your DH to tell) one of your closest friends what has happened, and have that person organize a shower (possibly virtual if that's the best way to do it) for the people you actually want to see. Hang in there! I hope the UTI resolves very quickly. Good luck with the GD - and be assured that that's not abnormal, I know plenty of "normal" pregnant ladies who've had it. You deserve some pampering today, maybe a warm bath with scented candles and soft music?

• 19 weeks, 2 days. Had the A/S yesterday and our BOYS looked great! Now we just need to come up with good names. This might be challenging :) Everyone thought we were going to have girls or b/g so we are all surprised. My husband's grandma was going crazy (she is from Italy just for background info). She was saying, "ooooohhhh mama mia, 2 boys! mama mia! I gotta go and call everyone." We are going to start registering this weekend. My mother-in-law has already bought the stroller and we know which carseats we are going to get. Even my husband seems more excited now! We are going back every four weeks for growth scans so that will be fun to keep checking in on them.

•
@ashris13 Thank you so much for another great check-in. Thank you also for the compliment on my ticker :)

My doctor wanted to have my cervix measured due to past surgeries I've had to remove small fibroids. I had that done today & everything looked well! That's a relief. They listened to the baby with the doppler. I was kind of disappointed I didn't get an ultrasound but we'll be able to see the baby at the end of the month for our a/s! We are not having a shower but opted for a small gender reveal party with our immediate family. That will be at the end of the month. I'm feeling okay but my bladder is definitely getting weak. Now when I puke, I'm apparently open to peeing on myself at the same time! Yikes! LOL. Fun times :-/
