Triple stroller?

I asked this on another board too but figured I'd ask here as well.

Does anyone have any recs for a stroller for a 3.5, almost 2, and a newborn? I have a double stroller but I'm thinking id at least like to have the option of securing my oldest if needed. He just turned 3 and absolutely still needs to be secured when I am out alone with him and his brother. As a SAHM I take the kids out often alone. Also, my 2 kids hated baby wearing (as did I) so I'm not really looking to that as an option.

Anyone been in a similiar boat with these ages?

Re: Triple stroller?

  • How long do you really think you'll need to secure your oldest? All of the triple strollers I've seen are so expensive I would worry about not really getting much use out of it if he'll be almost 4 before you even start using it. I apologize if he has special needs and has a need for a stroller, I'm just thinking for a typical 3.5 YO I would just start focusing on getting him to stay with you vs shelling out for a triple

  • He'll be almost 4 when your baby is born, just wait and see if he needs it then.
  • I would also think a double with a buggy board. And if he really likes to run away maybe a "leash" to attach him to you or your stroller.

Ds will be just shy of 4 when my new one is born and I was thinking a double for the same reasons as you. He still uses the stroller a lot right now if we go out for longer outings and I don't trust him to not run away. But 9 months can make a huge difference. And so either he will mature or I will teach him new rules. We are getting a single with a buggy board. I had to remind myself he starts JK soon after the baby is born and I am NOT taking him in a stroller to school. lol

  • I would not get a triple. My kids are 2 and almost 4. The only time we still use our double is for big outings like the zoo or amusement park. When baby3 arrives I will mostly use our single stroller. We have the baby trend sit and stand double, so I can have the baby and 2yo ride and my 4yo can stand on the board if needed.

  • I agree I'd skip the triple.i got a double bc my 2yo still wants to ride, but she's become increasingly interested in waking in just the last two months. Things change fast! Your little guy will be almost four. He needs to learn to walk safely by you! Bring an ergo or something jic and if he needs to ride bc he's misbehaving then put him in and leave. I bet he learns fast! In fact I would start practicing now :) save your money for something more fun! Seriously, I am tempted to sell my double down days because while I love it, we don't use it a ton anymore.
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

  • Valco twin tri mode with jump seat. Worth every penny. Great resale value. I sold it on CL in a hour for 400.

That looks really cool! Thank you!

I definitely won't be buying anything til closer when the baby would be born, so I'll see how my oldest is doing as far as still using the stroller then. Our double is the Contours Options LT which I am not sure if I could attach a glider to, I don't think so but I'd have to look into it (it has a foot brake that goes across the entire back of the stroller).

I guess ideally I'd love a stroller where it COULD have 3 seats if needed, but at the least a glider or one of those sit and stand type deals so if he really needed containing I could use it. But yeah I have no idea how he will be when the time comes. I was just curious as to what others were using who aren't into baby wearing!

    Thanks everyone!

  • Yeah my SIL just got a Baby Jogger City Select off Craigslist at a decent price (I don't think I could pay full price for one) but I know that has the option of the buggy board and also snack trays which I like (LO#2 eats 24/7). I currently have a Baby Jogger City Mini which I love, so I know I'd like the double. I'm going to look into it. Thanks!

  • I have the Baby Jogger City Select with the Englacha Junior X-rider on it, and I recommend it highly. My son just turned three and still rides in the seat on the X-rider when I need him to, but it converts to a glider board for later as well. Not sure if it will work with the double you have, but it's a great product.

  • I do not have a stroller that can fit all 3.  I did see someone at the library who had a sit and stand and 2 were sitting on the little board in the back.  I would also begin to train him to stay by you.  Instruct him to keep a hand on a specific part of the stroller.  If he leaves that spot he gets a warning.  If he does it again he has to ride in the stroller/cart.  Hopefully this way he'll be trained by the time baby comes.  Babywearing is also a lifesaver.  I would try different carriers.  It could be that you just didn't have a carrier that you and baby liked.

  • I have an almost 4 yo, 2.5 yo, and 10 month old. I would honestly be working really hard on training your oldest to be able to walk and stay close to you. That's a must-do imo. Keep in mind though, that I don't even have a double stroller. So I definitely think a triple is a waste of money. (And what a PITA to deal with.)

The great thing about the Valco with the jump seat is that it's a double jogger, with the option of a 3rd seat. I "trained" my singleton as well as I could. It wasn't about her running….but sometimes I needed the security of a 3rd seat. You know, sometimes kids get tired, melt down. If we were at the mall play place and one of my kids decided they didn't want to go? Well, I could reason and threaten all I wanted…but I needed a stroller to get out of the mall, up the elevator and to my car. I had a friend once say "you just tell them you are leaving and pick one up". LOL. So the extra $100 for the jump seat was a life saver….and put my mind at ease.

I've had people tell me that and I only have 2. My sister criticized me more than once for letting my 4 year old ride in the stroller while wearing DD. The baby hated it and if he was being tired, uncooperative, asking to ride, whatever...why should I push an empty stroller? So yeah the whole "just tell him it's time to go" is only for people with perfect children ;) but with 3 as close in age as yours are I would absolutely see the necessity in a 3rd seat

Same for me with the X-rider. Having the option to buckle them all in and haul ass out of any meltdown is so worth the $100 it cost. And it is super easy to clip on and off.
