2nd Trimester

23 weeks, cause for concern?

23 weeks and a FTM, I've felt movement from my baby girl since as early as 14weeks, but can't quite describe this feeling. It almost feels like she has hiccups and it's a shallow thump feeling that is steady, not like the kicks I'm used to. It started last night when I got off my 8hr serving shift, continued for a good hour or so then started again this evening. I'm wondering if I should call my doctor or if it's just silly first mama jitters making me paranoid.

Re: 23 weeks, cause for concern?

  • Poor thing, I've always had hiccups, especially now that I'm pregnant. It seems like mother like daughter haha

  • It could be because she's so low that I feel a lot of pressure on my pelvis and the hiccups sort of exacerbate the pain, which is the only reason I'm hyper aware of them.
  • It's hiccups and it is perfectly normal and ok.
  • DD had a lot in utero. It was cute until I was trying to go to sleep. Even now, almost 4 years later, she is susceptible to them when tickled mercilessly.

  • Both DS and this one had/have hiccups ALL the time in utero. Probably once a day. Just like you said, it's a very regular thumping feeling. Much more "gentle" than kicks, but also much more regular. My mom said my siblings and I always got hiccups in utero, too.

  • The can hiccup, shiver motion, breath movement , kick, head butt, punch, startle

Just about anything you see them do on the outsides. And before you freak out they will get seizure fast type moments as well.
  • Usually my baby will have them first, then I'll get them. While I'm working (I waitress 7-8hrs a day) she'll always get hiccups towards the end of the night and start kicking a lot once I'm finishing up sidework and not running around. It's pretty cute how predictable she is but sometimes it really does THUD against my pelvis (ouch!!)
