Nbr- Wedding Food

So we set a date for our wedding of July 31, 2015 at a local restraunt/bar/event center. The building used to be a machine shop and then was renovated. It's actually a really popular place to have weddings now. We are also doing it on a Friday night since more people are likely to show up in the summer as it doesn't disrupt their whole weekend. Basically, it's going to be pretty laid back and have more of a party/fun atmosphere.

Anyway.. My question is, do you think it is tacky to have a pizza buffet? There would be different kinds of (award winning) gourmet pizzas made by the venue, salads, bread, and pasta salads.

I want the wedding to be nice but not super formal. And I want it to be fun and memorable.

TIA!! And I promise not to bombarde you guys with wedding questions for the next year.. Perhaps I will join the knot.

  • Honestly, I would like pizza BUT I would think it was a little odd to plan a wedding for a year where you were just serving pizza. And I really love pizza. But does it really take a year to plan for that? And and the only downside to pizza is that it doesn't stay warm long so if you aren't in the first 20 people to serve yourself you will probably get room temp pizza unless they are all under heat lamps. I kinda don't like that.

  • Nowadays people have all different kinds of wedding receptions so I don't think it would be unusual to serve pizza, especially if you are having a low key affair. My cousin from Texas had bbq brisket and all of the sides at her wedding and everybody loved it. Happy wedding planning and thanks for giving me a pizza craving!!

  • I say it's your wedding and you do whatever you want!!! I think a pizza bar would be a good way to make your wedding special and give people something to remember. How many times have you gone to a wedding and had a pizza bar????

  • Sounds awesome! I'd love to go to a different, laid back wedding instead of a boring, traditional wedding. Go for it!

  • I think it's a great idea, especially with gourmet pizzas and a couple really nice salads. Plus cold pizza is a million times better than cold dried out chicken that you get at a lot of weddings.

  • Talk to me about "buffet". Any way you can have it set up as more of stations than a bunch of people standing in a cafeteria line? I have visions of a Cici's pizza place with sneeze guards.

My only apprehension is that some people might not want to be dressed up and eat with their hands.

  • I put maybe. I think it would have to be done right as others suggested. Gourmet pizza not served from a buffet could work if guest are dressing casual.
