2nd Trimester

Growth ultrasound

I'm 25 weeks & 2 days and last week I was measuring almost 6 weeks ahead. I'm scheduled for a growth ultrasound tomorrow and kinda nervous. He hasn't been as active the past day and a half but he is still kicking and rolling just now like he was. Any advice?

  • Advice for what exactly?
  • Try to relax, my oldest son always measured ahead. Not only was he a full pound smaller than my 2nd son (who always measured on schedule), he was also shorter. The only thing we learned from the growth ultrasound was that he had a giant head, which he still has.

  • Do you mean 6 days ahead? My little guy has measured about a week ahead at all our ultrasounds. Never was told it's a cause for concern though...
  • My growth scan is wed and it makes me nervous as well. I'll be 26w5d.

I'm guessing she means 6wks ahead based on fundal height.
OP I have no advice, hope it goes well.

When I was pregnant with my son, my fundal height was measuring 4 weeks ahead pretty much my whole third trimester. My husband's relative who retired after 30 years as an OB looked at my belly when I was 7-ish months pregnant and said that my baby would "definitely be over 9 pounds." I had two growth ultrasounds, and he measured on the slightly higher end of average but nothing to be concerned about. He weighed 8lb 7 oz when he was born at 39.5 weeks - definitely not abnormally large. Fundal height is not always terribly accurate, which is why they follow up with an ultrasound if it's "off." They just want to rule out things like an excess of amniotic fluid or a really, really large baby.

ETA - Babies tend to move less as they get larger, because they run out of room. As long as you are still feeling regular movement, it's not necessarily worrisome that you don't feel as much as you did before.
