Rock n Play

DS is 7 weeks old and we have been dealing with reflux for quite awhile. We have tried many things to get the reflux under control and let LO sleep longer. At this point, I am thinking of trying the Rock n Play, as he does not sleep very well in his bassinet, even though I have it inclined a bit. I have heard great things about the Rock n Play. My concern is that he will get used to the RNP and not want to transition to a crib later on. Any thoughts or experiences with the RNP would be great! How long will your LO be using the RNP for night sleeping?

Also, DS will be going to a home daycare around 14 weeks. I believe all she has are pack and plays and flat surface cribs for naps. I am concerned about him having trouble napping while in daycare if he is used to an incline.

Thanks!

Re: Rock n Play

  • LO slept in a rnp until about 5 weeks when I started having him sleep in an arms reach cosleeper. He had no issues making the change.

  • DD is going to be 11 weeks tomorrow and we are having a very tough time transitioning from the RnP to the crib/bassinet. She instantly wakes up when we put her in the crib and refuses fall asleep in the crib on her own. Each baby is different though...if he already sleeps on flat surfaces you may not have any issues. Good luck!

My son was sleeping in the rnp the first month due to reflux, he is on medicine now & has transitioned to the crib. It was an ok transition but took time to get him to sleep longer periods. I wouldn't suggest starting that habit now at 7 weeks, but the rnp is still a good place to set him down awake while I'm cooking etc
  • Mine transitioned to a PnP with no problem. The RnP was causing him to have bad gas issues. Apparently he needs to stretch his legs out in order
    to fart :)

  • My little guy has reflux and he sleeps in the rock and play. He rarely throws up in it, but he throws up everywhere else. He sleeps very well in it, also.

Haven't transitioned to the crib yet so not sure how that's going to go.
  • My LO is 7 weeks and we have had her sleeping in the rnp for naps and night sleeping. I started moving it to her room a couple weeks ago for naps and just yesterday started trying the crib for naps. It went alright but today she refuses to sleep in there. Wakes up every time I put her down and I even have it tilted like the rnp. I have a feeling it's going to be a battle.

  • DS slept in the RNP a lot the first month. After that I transitioned him to the crib with no problems. At that point he didn't really like being in it anymore because he likes to kick his legs out.

  • My LO is 5 1/2 weeks and has reflux. I got the RNP for this reason. LIFE SAVER! I haven't transitioned yet but an worried about the same thing. But will worry about that later. For now it works!
  • And my girl sleeps in it generally from 10pm-5am then 6am-9am. Love it!
  • Every baby is going to respond differently. Our LO is 9 1/2 weeks and he sleeps in his crib in his room at night. We use the RNP for naps and when I need to set him down, etc. We had used the RNP for the first stretch of nighttime sleep as he had some gas issues and grunted less in there than in the cosleeper. That is no longer an issue. I say go with what allows LO to sleep since that is so important and worry about the transition later when the time comes. It may not be an issue for you at all. DS goes back and forth between flat and RNP just fine. Good luck!

i use the RNP but have used PNPs while on vacations and he's slept fine in both.  Try letting him nap on a flat surface so he doesn't lose that ability?

  • @jenb_99‌ Color me very, very jealous. DD has been sleeping in the RnP since day one & the longest stretch we've gotten is maybe 6 hours and she's 9w tomorrow. At this age I say go with whatever gets you those elusive marathon stretches!

I think it was a fluke. She must've just been recovering from her growth spurt. I put her back in the bassinet last night and she slept 5.5 hours. I'm not comfortable letting her go 8 yet. My boobs can't handle it either. I need her to eat at least once during the night to relieve the pressure.

  • Dd is 10 weeks old and still using the r&p she has reflux as well and if she lays down too long she throws up so im scared to transition her to her crib until she can belly sleep. Im ded afraid we will have problems transitioning but she loves to nap on her tummy. So we shall see when the time comes.

  • We used the RNP in the beginning for both kids. DD's transition out of it was awful. We started at 5 months and by 6 months gave up and started bed sharing. We already transitioned DS because he has a flat spot and the RNP can make it worse. He moved to the crib easily although he isn't sleeping the long stretches he did in the RNP yet. I don't know if transitioning earlier made a difference or if it just depends on the baby. Their temperaments are as different as night and day and DS has always been a better sleeper, so I'm sure that is part of it.

  • DS has been sleeping in his RNP for about 6 weeks (he's 7wks) and was doing great and sleeping for a 5 hours stretch at night, then another 3-4 hrs.  We just moved him last night to an Arms Reach CoSleeper because I've noticed his head is getting a little flat on one side.  I've heard this is an issue so we decided to make the switch.  He slept for a 4 and 3 hour stretch last night. He also took a little more time to get back to sleep, but it wasn't as awful as I had expected.

This is totally us!! He grunts toward the end of the night and when I pick him up to feed he farts like crazy. For this reason we want to switch but don't want to lose the 7hr stretch we're getting...
