Hello March Moms! I am new to this and I am due march 7th I'm having a hard time cutting out the coffee. I don't drink a lot but I do love having a cup in the morning! Some people say cut it out totally, some say just try to cut back. What do you think?
It is really ok to have a cup of coffee a day, or if you are a soda drinker, a can of soda. The amount of caffeine that you would have to take in to actually reach and impact the fetus is ridiculously high.
I still drink some form of caffeine most days--either in pop or a half-calf cup of coffee. I've definitely cut back but I got terrible headaches when I cut it out completely. It's safe to have 200-300mg a day (according to different sources). I think a Coke has about 35 mg.
As previous posters have said, 200 mg is the recommended amount of caffeine consumption per day, and a 2 shot espresso latte has about 150. Even though you could technically drink a couple cups of small coffee and a soda a day, I have cut my caffeine down to one latte a day. I didn't give up coffee with my first pregnancy and all went perfect, and I don't intend to cut it out with this one!
*edited because I thought I had seen somewhere that espresso had less caffeine, but with a re-google, I found it was higher
Go for it! I however attempted to drink a cup today and I will NOT be doing it again at least for a while. I must have peed 2 dozen times in about an hour and a half. I doubled my already doubled pee rate -__- To me it's not worth wasting precious toilet paper that I am already going through like crazy lol. But it is nice to know I can consume caffeine for those moments I feel like I might pass out from exhaustion.

I am doing half decaf/half regular. I drank a cup or more a day until I found out about my first at 6 weeks. I still drank soda but caffeine started making me sick, so I kicked the habit for awhile. This time I'm doing ok. Drink and enjoy :-)
I cut it out because it's an easy thing for me to give up, but I have a friend who drank plenty of coffee throughout her pregnancy and her kid is fine.

I drank coffee or green tea my whole first pregnancy with no problems. I like other posters need to have at least a cup of tea or coffee to prevent migraines. I currently am down to either a 14 oz cup of brewed coffee or a latte a day instead of a latte and 4-5 cups a day
I still drink my morning coffee and then I'll have a diet coke in the afternoon. Last time with DD, I was so sick during the 1st trimester that I ended up cutting it out just because I had major aversions to it, but it wasn't for fear of caffeine consumption. I won't have my Red Bulls anymore and will make sure I'm under the 200mg limit, but I'm not going to worry about it too much!
Have the coffee. You'll enjoy your pregnancy a whole lot more if you realize that everything is okay in moderation (other than drugs, etc obviously). Enjoy your cup.
I've been without coffee for a couple weeks. Not because of the warning of caffeine but just because it didn't sit well. I think I'll try some iced coffee today. It is sounding quite good after listening to you ladies enjoying it.
Isn't it strange how something that seemed so vital just a bit ago is no longer a necessity? I've lost the taste for it mostly. But I think I can enjoy one now and then.
Love coffee, but I always get decaf because of anxiety. My caffeine problem is more likely to come from chocolate. How much caffeine is in milk chocolate?
I've been used to drinking 2 cups of coffee/day...ill finish up the Kcups that I have right now, then switch to half-caff. Did that with first pregnancy and found that to be perfect!
I gave it up for awhile first pregnancy and when I told my OB she basically laughed at me and told me to relax. I don't limit caffeine much at all this time around because otherwise I get migraines, which will end up meaning I need meds with caffeine anyway.
Re: Coffee or no coffee that is the question

Research recommends keeping caffeine consumption under 200mg/day. Depending on strength and coffee type that's 1-2 cups.
