It is very possible to get pregnant on the mini pill- so use a condom as well when you DTD.
I was vigilant about taking mine and never missed a pill. Had been taking them for almost 4 weeks before we DTD. Well, found out last night during a hospital visit for a kidney infection that I'm 4 weeks and some change pregnant.
Tell your men to wrap it up!

Anyway it seems the universe thinks you have really great genes and wants more of them in the next generation. Congrats!

PS note to universe: my genes are only so-so. Let's wait at least 6-9 more months before growing a new critter with them. Thanks.

I EP for awhile, but had to stop. We were switching to a more effective BC. Nexplanon was coming in this week, buuuut don't really need it now.

Efficacy goes way down if not exclusively breast feeding... I guess this is a perfect example.

In late June. I was switching to Nexplanon this week, I'd had to wait for them to order it and was using the mini pill in the mean time. That's irrelevant, though. I conceived while EP'ing.

Congrats! That's crazy. I was on the mini pill for two years due to blood pressure problems and we had good luck with it (didn't get pregnant until I purposely stopped taking it)

Good to know. I will be sure to test before I get my IUD next week. I hated the bleeding, but even more reason to switch I guess.

Fwiw, my brother and I are 13 months apart and my mom said she wouldn't do it any other way looking back. Once everyone was sleeping and out of diapers, it was awesome because she didn't have to go through that again.

Hummm. My Dr. told me it is not critical to take it at the same time. I clarified, he said it twice that it just helps establish a routine. He did mention that it is less effective then conventional BC though. He also said when BFing (or pumping, lactating in any capacity) it should be fairly effective.

To ppl who said what's the point of condoms and mini pill I think it's really just extra protection honestly and I don't mind using both but then again DH and I used condoms pretty often when I was on conventional bcp too before we wanted to conceive! Your doctor is a liar. Read the leaflet or ask your pharmacist about timing. It has to do with the drug's half life. The leaflet said that with perfect use at the same time every day your odds of getting pregnant the first year in this pill is something like 1 in 300. With "average use" of not at the same time, 1 in 20.

It even suggests taking the pill at certain times if you have a predictable sex pattern. For example if you're usually an am sexer, you should take it at night so that you aren't cutting it close to the 24 hour mark when your CM could get thin if you take a dose late.

Most unfair that it failed you when you didn't even mess up! There's those good genes again. Maybe your kid will be really organized and punctual!

My MW told me that the mini pill is really only effective for about 21 hours so she recommended taking it in the late afternoon or very early evening (teatime if we were British) since in general people are less likely to DTD at that time of day. I wonder if maybe some people process it quicker so it lasts even less time or if there might be other reasons afternoon is better to take it (related to changing hormone and other levels throughout the day). Or maybe the PM time is just an OWT. Did anyone else get told which time of day to take it?

I was told AM to take with my vitamins. I'm just saying to be careful on the mini pill because, for me, it failed. But hey, happy surprise.

And @Azlebella‌, I was told to take it at the same time every day as well. Be careful if you aren't!

My Dr. said the reason you have to take it at the same time every day is because it works for just 23 hours. This is why I'm going with a Mirena.

Yeah...my doctor said I'd go back to 30 day cycles when I stopped taking BC and mentioned nothing about side effects of stopping. Not once in the 13 months following did I have a 30 day cycle (the 81 day one was particularly fun) and the 2-3 weeks of migraines after coming off were not cool either. I no longer take their word for it when it comes to BC.

Had a short, but heavy period around June 2nd and I had spotting late June, but assumed it was just weird PP crap. Guess it was implantation.

I am using a back-up method, just to be safe. The Dr. also told me not to expect my period at all so long as I was BFing, and I got it one week after starting the mini-pill, so 6 weeks PP.

Wah Wah. Hence, I don't really trust that my body will adhere to what is 'expected'. lol
