Trying to Get Pregnant

addictions

As I sit here with my decaf Starbucks coffee (I've weened myself off caffeine and no longer get raging caffeine headaches, but I have an addiction to coffee so I can't stop myself) it made me wonder what other people can't give up!
For me it's coffee and Snyder's Buffalo Wing Pretzel Bits. I can't say no to those. I crave them often. Too often.

Coffee - I've read/heard/my own doctor told me, 1-2 cups a day is ok during TTC.  I drink 2 cups in the morning, & make up for it w/nearly 8 cups of water.  Hardly ever drink soda, so yeah not giving up coffee, not even during pregnancy.

Cold Stone - best ice cream in the world, enough said.

  • I heard 1-2 cups (meaning 8 oz) is fine during pregnancy too, so you don't have to give it up!

For me, it would have to be wine and smoked salmon and lox spread.

And yes, I am definitely now addicted to TB!

Coffee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, don't leave me unattended near a bag of oreos, which is why I never buy them. I can not have just one...it's embarrassing.

Not that I would consider any of the things listed in this thread addctions.  Vices maybe, but throwing around the word addiction just rubs me a bit wrong when we're talking about iced lates and fruit snacks...

But, mine is totally Diet Coke.
You're right, vices is much more accurate.

  • YES! My vice is absolutely cappuccino, one cup each morning maybe two if I'm groggy lol!
Also, another vice would be, more like an obsession, pistachio almond ice cream omg my H is even addicted, we can't buy it too much or we will eat one tub in a day lol sooo good! I am now craving it hahaha
  • Actual addiction:  caffeine, because I get a massive headache without it

    Vice:  TJ Maxx/Marshalls/Homegoods/Nordstrom Rack

Internet vices:  looking at home design (kitchens mostly) that I won't be able to afford ANY time soon, and the Bump.

  • Add another to the Dr. Pepper list. I had one for breakfast X_X
  • I'm more proud of kicking the Diet Coke habit than I was off quitting smoking. I did it by switching to Diet Barq's (no caffeine!).

  • Addicted to coffee for sure. Headache central if I don't have at least 16oz. I have been trying to cut back to 16oz/day right now and then my goal will be 8oz...I'm going to try to switch to tea and see how that goes...

As for vices: I've been on here a crazy amount of time since I discovered the app. TTC also takes up lots of my time as the whole reason I needed to begin treatment for my metabolic disorder is for TTC so I spend much of my day pre-planning meals, taking blood samples, preparing snacks and metabolic formula, etc. when you combine that with the little things like temping, OPKs x 2 during my FW, time for sex, charting, and of course, my time on here, it's quite a bit. Certainly not how I imagined it being...

Regarding caffeine, I know miscarriage risk isn't elevated unless you have more than like 300mg caffeine/day (don't quote me) - so I will never give up my Diet Coke! I *will* try to have only 1/day max though.

    Not really. It's happened before.

  • I do so love caffeine. I used to drink two monster energy drinks a day at least but my doctor recommended less than 200mg so now I pretty much just drink Dr. Pepper for my caffeine.

Mine is iced coffee (at least in the summer). I switched to decaf and ditched all artificial sweeteners when TTC the first time and I've stuck with it. DH and I just finished a 30 day sugar cleanse which was a major challenge for me- no ice cream! But I don't seem to need vanilla syrup in my iced coffee anymore!

Nutella. Nutella on everything. I would probably eat it if it were spread on a cat turd.
@Brewgirl1980: At least you would be blissfully unaware that there was a turd underneath? ;-)

ETA: I'm addicted to coffee, celebrity news, and the Bump. I tried to start drinking 3/4 decaf and 1/4 caffeinated but I just don't like it as much as my half caf.

  • For me it's coffee/tea
I'm also working on giving up sushi, med rare steak and blue cheese dressing for my salads. I know I can have all of these while I'm ttc but I also know if I dobt start dialing back now I won't stop once I need to.

You can have all that while pregnant as long as you're getting it from a reputable place and your not letting it go bad before eating it. Maybe cook the steak a bit more, but even still.

There's this one stand at our Farmer's Market and back when they first came in they had the most magnificent pickles. Bread and butter but not cloyingly sweet, they had a little spice and enough sour to be perfect. I dream about these pickles and every week I'm looking for them. None yet. I'm going to have to ask where they are.

Mine is oddly specific. Chocolate mousse, specifically from Whole Foods. It's such a pain to make myself for just myself and it's so delicious. I drive by there whenever I have appointments downtown, so I stop off and get one. So good.

I'm on the Diet Coke train, but I cut down a lot in the last couple of years. I went from probably 6 a day in high school to 2 a day for a long time and now I'm down to 1 a day. I'd like to be down to 1 every other day and special occasions.

I'm a brand buyer (not always expensive brands, but I like what I like) on a lot of things, so I'm pretty specific with my shopping lists.

The only problem for me with sushi is it's too fucking expensive for me to indulge in as often as I crave it. And obviously I keep mercury content in mind when consuming seafood while pregnant, from anywhere, but I have no qualms about enjoying a nice meal at a reputable sushi restaurant.

If you don't trust a place when TTC/pregnant/breastfeeding/etc, why would you ever eat there, anyway?
