Cloth Diapering

Baby Led Weaning

My son has decided that purses are just not his thing. We've tried broccoli and sweet potato fries. Both went over pretty well. Tonight I'm going to try carrot sticks. Since I haven't done this before, what do you offer and how do you offer it (stick, chunk, cube?). Help.

As long as baby is 6 months and can sit unassisted-go crazy! A loved eating strips of rotisserie chicken, strips of steak. Soft pear sliced, strips of banana, she would chew the tops off of soft broccoli florets- really anything within reason. I cooked without adding salt, since excess sodium can be a big problem. I didn't hold back on any other seasonings. Obviously things like nuts, grapes, blueberries and raisins may be a problem if baby is younger (choking hazards and all :) we held off on that until she was over a year because of seasonal availability. We didn't wait on eggs-scrambled eggs was one of her first favorites.

Baby Led Weaning by Gill Rapley is a good read. It helped me be a little more comfortable with things. We are so happy we did it-A was eating calamari with us the other night ;)

  • 7 months. Anything I should avoid other than the normal nuts, eggs honey? Also, how old for cheese and yogurt. I waited with my daughter. We don't have any allergy issues with dairy.

My N is 8 months and now he has a pretty good pincher grasp so we are doing small pieces (pea sized for harder foods, marble sized for soft foods) more often than sticks lately.

  • No pincher graps yet. But he's really good at targeting his mouth.

I think I may try the apple tonight.

  • I used to cut things into big enough chunks he could grab it but not stuff the whole thing in his mouth at once. It forced him to take bites and they were the size he was comfortable with. Small chunks make me nervous. It's really easy for them to accidentally inhale them.
