We are taking our 2 1/2 yr old to Rivera Maya next week. I need advise on the following:
Car seat yes or no, taking a van to hotel. Should I use it on the plane?
Pack and play? He is still in his crib but getting a little big for the pack and play. He has slept in a bed before but I'm worried about him falling on the concrete floor at night.

Re: Traveling for vacation
We recently traveled with DD who is about to turn 2 (it was our 5th plane trip with her). I moved her from a crib to a mattress on the floor a few months prior to our trip because of the reasons you mentioned: too big for the PNP, concerned about how she would do in an open bed. I'm VERY glad I did. If you don't want to transition LO now, you can always ask the hotel if they have a crib, or see if there is a BabysAway baby gear rental or similar near your location. (We used a similar rental service when DD was 10 months: crib, highchair, stroller; it was awesome!)
I would absolutely take the car seat. Having it on the plane's seat is best, but if it doesn't fit in the seat then gate check it. I'd highly recommend looking for a car seat travel holder of some sort. We use the Britax Car Seat Travel Cart, Black but there are several options out there. Our cart makes it east to navigate the terminal - we just load it up with our carryones and push DD in her stroller, or she walks to burn off energy depending on the amount of foot traffic. I've seen parents use the backpack style too.
I would definitely bring the carseat. I don't want to be anywhere without a safe way to transport DS around.
