Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Does your Dr recommend Benedryl?

DS was sick over Christmas.  Nothing too bad, just congestion.  During the day I was using a saline solution to clear his nose but I was debating giving him a decongestant at night since I thought there were some available OTC for infants.  Then I started researching it and saw that all infant cold medicines and decongestants were taken off the market last year.  Since it was over the holiday my ped wasn't open, so I just did the saline and let him sleep with us at night so his head was propped on my shoulder.  I know I have heard of babies taking benedryl, so I was just wondering if your Dr recommended it.  I am going to ask my Dr about it on Monday when we go in for his 4 month shots.  TTA!

  • I don't give benadryl to LO under a year ....sometimes if they are really uncomfortable I will ok it for 9 months or so, but never your child's age. Cold medications are really dangerous for children less than 2 and have a lot of bad side effects so you are doing all you can with the nasal saline, humidifier, ect.
