Pacifiers

Anyone else's lo's not take a pacifier? I have tried off and on since my DD was born to get her to take a pacifier and have not had luck! I feel like she is the only baby who doesnt like them.

No, my kid barely takes one and it has to be a soothie. Anything else he automatically spits out. With a soothie he sucks on it for a little before he spits it out

I'll be sad if he never takes one.

MH and I were just talking about this. Our little guy doesn't like them at all. He either spits it out right away or gags :-(

My mom says I never took one. If nothing was coming out of it, I didn't want it! My LO will take one at times but when she's done with it, she's done with it. And sometimes she wants nothing to do with it. I don't mind though, makes me thinking weaning her off it won't be difficult.

My LO will not take one either despite the fact we continue to try. Have tried gripe water, sugar water and 6 kinds of pacifiers.

DS takes it occasionally and not for very long. Then he spits it out and cries so I'd rather he just not use it than have to constantly put it back.

Mine doesn't! Though in all honesty I have only tried giving it to her a handful of times. It doesn't really bother me that she doesn't use one, as I never used one as a baby and I've always been fearful of having a kid starting school who is still sucking on a pacifier (though I know that is often not the case....)

I feel you on the fearfulness of them having it later than needed. I've seen the weaning process for a tot, sometimes good ... sometimes not so good. I'm scared I would be the not so good, so we have refrained.

But it would be nice to use it for sleep, as he comfort sucks and thats what is giving me the pain.

My DD loves her paci, Im not concerned I have read that paci using babies are at less chance for SIDS

The poor nips. My midwife made a good point. It's about learning to self soothe whether it's a nip paci thumb finger etc. So all beneficial to their development. Just the poor nips.

Mine will only sort of sometimes take one and not at the times I really wish she would (when upset, car rides, for daytime naps to help there be such a thing ...) . This is a soothie. She totally rejects mam. Are there other kinds worth trying?

She will still often suck on my finger as a pacifier but less ofen than earlier - it was like magic the first 2-3 weeks unless she was hungry.

Ds would only take soothie but I tried others and he loves tomee tippee air flow and now will only take those they are thicker and not ortho shaped

Both my sons refused to take one. Both are tongue tied though so that could be a factor.

I've had luck starting LO on a finger and then switching immediately to a pacifier.

My LO would only take the soothie for a bit then spit it out. One of my SILs gave me a gerber first essentials paci to try and she loves it! It is shaped differently so it stays in her mouth. It has helped so much with getting her to sleep! I can only find them at walmart.

My LO doesn't take a paci either. I have tried about 5-6 different kinds. He will take one for a bout 2 minutes sometimes. I sucked my thumb until school age so do worry about him not being able to wean from paci or thumb... But dang... It would be good to have a soother for him!

DD has tried 6-7 different pacis and we finally found one that she will take. But she will only use it to put herself to sleep. If she's really mad or awake she will not let a paci near her.

DS1 would only take the nuk ones that are all silicon. I don't think he really took it until 2-3 months though. DS2 takes the soothies occasionally but I have not tried any others with him. He'll take it sometimes so I just keep trying hoping that he sticks with them because we like to use the wubbanubs (easy to find to grab in the car or MOTN) and they use the soothies.

Mine will only take soothie and only when shes sleepy. Right before she falls asleep she spits it out.

DS would only take the Gerber essentials ones and DD1 would only take a certain kind of Platte one and only took it for the first couple of months then ended up a thumb sucker, which we still fight and shes 7 now.

My LO likes to chew on the paci, occasionally he will suck on it. However someone has to hold it in for him, or else he'll spit it out. But he doesn't really like them. Which MH is perfectly fine with. I on the other hand hope he doesn't start with sucking on fingers, it's a lot easier to break a paci habit than it is to break a finger habit.

LO takes it sometimes for comfort for a nap.. I'd be fine if she never wanted it.. But I think they're adorable.. & handy when they wanna suckle and aren't hungry..

You're not alone as other pp's have said mine won't take one either! I tried 9 different kinda and different sizes. I'm petty sure it's because she doesn't suck well. I feel like she's using her tongue more than the sucking motion. I'm wondering if she started doing this because I have a fast let down and she hasn't needed to work as hard because she did take a paci at one point. I'm just gonna keep trying because right now she likes comfort suck and I want her to have something else to comfort her when someone else is holding her.

Mine will only take one at certain times. If he is fussy and is at that time when he would want to comfort nurse is really when he wants one (I EP so we give bottles). He's done that since I was breast feeding because I have over active let down so he could never really comfort nurse from me.

He'll take one when he is in the car (thank the lord) and sometimes at night when we put him in his crib, but he will usually spit it out once he is calmed down. But if he's not in the mood for a pacifier, he's not going to take it!

My son only takes one brand-the same brand as his bottle-Tommy tipee.

We use the wubanubs (red dog) that she will suck sometimes for about 1 minute or less but we also dont bother with it much because its more of a hassle to keep putting it in her mouth.
