Pregnant after 35

1st pregnancy after infertility. Fibroids.

Hi

I'm 35, pregnant with my first after 4 years of TTC. This is an IVF conception.
I am really concerned about pains I am having, they are very regular I would say 80% of the time. Doctors say it's due to my fibroids which I have lots of and biggest is 5.5cm intramural.
I would like to ask if there are ladies here with uterine fibroids and how is /was your pregnancies?
Thank you

  • Sorry about the pain.  I don't have any experience to share, sorry.  I hope you get some answers soon and recover quickly.
  • I don't have any experience with fibroids, either. Talk to your doc for sure. Good luck!

I don't have much trouble with fibroids, but I do have cysts and endometriosis. I'm having lots of abdominal pains too (at 5w6d) and am trying to trust my doctor that it means nothing.
  • I have fibroids and get occasional pains. Neither me nor my OB are concerned about them now. They became more of a concern in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters when I was pregnant with my son.  Fibroid degeneration can cause preterm labor. I was monitored pretty closely after 20 weeks and had to go to Non-Stress Tests every week starting at 36 weeks to make sure that they were causing trouble the first time around.  Good luck!

  • Darby this is exactly what I thought my fibroid to be - my baby! But unlike you I didn't know until 12 weeks scan and kept stroking it lol
Last night I had to go to ER because of the pain, it started radiating to my rear and my back was killing me. I literally cried with pain and no amount of paracetamol seemed to help.
This morning they did a scan and revealed that the biggest fibroid is now 7cm. Baby Is fine. They said neither my fibroids nor pain should cause any distress to him. Nevertheless advised me to take 1mg of para 4 times a day. Which I think is a little excessive. Will take half of that if I can.

Thank you ladies for your replies and support :)
  • I have 3 and my largest at 6cm has grown since the pregnancy. Not much discomfort yet. Doc says they are ok. Just have to keep monitoring. I have an ultrasound at 32 and 36 weeks.
  • Omg it's been 3 weeks since the last bout of pain and it's back again. Last time noone was worried and had a consultation with OBgyn and he said he isn't worried and I had no additional US. Now the pain is back and it seems worse. Didn't sleep last night and can't get comfy. I can actually feel fibroids now. Not good :(( next US is in 4 weeks I wish they monitored ladies like me more. Surely we can't be classed as normal pregnancy. So annoyed and worried
  • Hi Tinaarena,
Sorry that you are having pain again.  It is weird b/c I just started having pain last night. I really think it is from my fibroid, but kind of hard to tell. I was just at the Doctor on Monday for my 24 week appointment. I hadn't had any pain before that appointment, so I forgot to even mention my fibroid, and my doctor said nothing of it either.
Starting last night I have had pain on the lower, right side (where I can feel my fibroid). The pain sort of stretches across my bikini line.  I was hoping it was ligament pain, but from what I read, that really comes and goes. This pain has been pretty constant since last night.
None of the doctors I have seen at my clinic seemed that the fibroid was anything to be concerned about. But now after checking w/dr. Google, I see that they can cause pre-term labor.  My next appointment isn't for 4 weeks either, but if I still feel like this tomorrow, I think I'll call the nurse.

  • Hope you are better now, my pain has subsided after 4 days of agony. I have actually been able to enjoy sunshine today. Now going to start looking forward to feeling the baby move, hopefully it will get stronger so that I can feel it. Although at 17.5 weeks it's a bit early
  • I am feeling better too. I didn't end up calling the doctor. But I will be sure to mention it at my next visit. I still feel pain off an on, but not continuously like it was.  It's so annoying!

There was a Dr. Oz show about fibroids on Thursday. I missed it, but I am going to try to find it online. I just want to see what they have to say.

I didn't start feeling the baby move until about 22-23 weeks. I think that was later than a lot of people. So maybe you'll feel something soon!
