epppp! tomorrow is the day

Checking into the hospital tomorrow night and being induced Monday morning. I did a hospital tour about 1 month ago but I've seemed to have forgotten everything they told me. Any other mommies out there that have/are being induced that want to give me another quick crash course of what to expect? Cervix is super soft, and thinned. LO is ready and really low. I was about 2cm on Wednesday. So nervous.

Thanks for any information!

  • While I enjoyed reading that my questions were more in reference to the chain of events during a scheduled inducement, not what I should take or eat (trust me, I've got eating on lockdown. Lol). And I was hoping previous mommies who were induced could share their stories with me and enlighten me.
  • I was going to be started on cytotec to soften cervix (was only dilated to 1) but due to regular contractions, they stuck two balloons up my wahoo and said it could take up to 12 hrs for the balloons to fall out (which happens when it's as soft as they need it). Took me 2-4 hrs.

This triggered loss of mucous plug and bloody show. Next they started me on pitocin at 1, not much progress so bumped up to 2. More progress and not too painful of contractions, but things weren't moving fast enough so upped to 3. That's when I thought I would die. My midwife and I thought I could handle without epi.

For some reason I got stuck around 9cm, in the transition phase which is conveniently the most painful stage. Just as I decided I was ready for the epi, they no sooner removed the needle and I was pushing.

3 pushes and baby girl was here.

I have nothing else to compare the pain to but I swore id never do without the epi again. 1 month out, I think I might try without epi again next time.

    Good luck. It's such a scary/exciting ecperience.

  • Pitocin makes contractions awful. Hopefully you can have an epidural which will be your lifesaver. My labor stalled being dialated between 3 and 4 and my nurse cranked my pitocin up to 5! By the time I was dialated to 7 I was begging for a c section or whatever drug they could give me. My nurse and resident begged me not to do a c section because they assumed I would deliver within an hour if my water broke. I could not have an epidural due to low platelets and therefore all I could have was fentanyl but I couldn't have that during the last hour because it crosses the border (gets to the baby) so I was stuck delivering natural a beautiful 8 lb. 10 oz. 21 " baby boy. I'm so in love with him but I'm thinking that I can't ever do that again. I was able to have an epidural with my DD and that delivery was very enjoyable. So completely different so I hope you don't have to have too much pitocin. If you're not dialating and you're not having an epidural try walking or a birthing ball to get things moving instead. I wish I would have known to watch the pitocin but I didn't know that 5 was alot. If your in extreme pain, close your eyes and focus on your breathing. Best of luck!
  • Thank you ladies. My doc seems to think once I'm induced it'll go pretty fast since I'm already so soft and thin. I sure hope so. I'm definitely getting an epidural, actually looking forward to that. Lol. I do remember the nurse at the hospital saying I can get it early if I want to because it won't wear off before the big contractions. I actually didn't know that. I thought it would. Has anyone else ever heard that? I think one of my biggest fears is by the time I'll really need it it won't be working.
