Changing pad?

Well we have our dresser and now it's time to get a changing pad, what brand of kind are using?

Re: Changing pad?

  • We got this one:

I remember a thread a while back regarding changing pads, different types and securing them to the dresser. May be helpful if you want to look it up :)

  • I found a Summer Infant one on Woot.com a couple weeks ago. It was pretty cheap and came quickly. We're just putting it on top of a dresser.

  • I got a cheep contoured pad from Walmart, and one cover, but have fabric to make two more covers, I just haven't done it yet.

  • I think we have a summer infant one but don't think this is one of those things where brand is a big deal. I mean how different can a changing pad really be? I never noticed ours being either awesome or terrible when DD was a baby.
  • We have Serta. Didn't put thought into it. I have a long one and my 2 yr old barely fits on it now. We secured it to the dresser. Never had a problem.

  • I wonder if the one from ikea would be comfortable for babies. I mean is not like they are sleeping in there

We have a very basic Summer Infant changing pad too.  Also using non-skid drawer liner underneath and the dresser that it sits on top of had a glass protective top (dresser was made by my grandfather and he has glass cut to fit on top).  We never strapped it down and never had an issue with any slippage.

I also will have diapers in our pack n play which is residing in our den since that's where we spend most of our time during the day.  I'll probably stage more diapers and a fold up changing pad in our bedroom for middle of the night since LO will be in our room for awhile.

Don't worry too much about the changing pad, it pretty quickly becomes easier to change them on the floor.

  • I ordered the same one stoofewok did. Does anyone know how important it is to actually get covers for it? I'm wondering if it will be a headache to change and wash the covers all the time rather than just wipe up the mess off the waterproof surface and quick disinfect it after use?

You want something absorbent under the baby. Think about pee running off the waterproof surface and onto the dresser and then onto the floor. Get the picture?
We have two terricloth covers. One gets messy and gets thrown in the wash. Wipe down the pad and put a new one on.

  • We have the munchkin brand but we don't use it. Ds2 will be with us and the changing pad is in the boys room. I just use the couch or floor.

  • snowflake91011 I registered for that one (for the same reasons), and now that we're post-shower am about to go ahead and buy it myself. Glad to hear a positive experience, thanks!

  • I am also getting the keekaroo! After doing some math on buying the changing pad and then a few covers for it this was not nearly as expensive as it seems! It also looks super easy to clean in the middle of the night! I hate putting pillow cases on pillows and regular changing pads are the same concept.
