Red white and blues...

Anyone else feeling down or depressed lately? I can't pinpoint a reason for it. I'm wondering if it is just a hormonal thing.

  • Yes. I feel cranky, emotional and pissy.

  • Yep! Just an overall unhappy feeling here! It comes and goes, but it's definitely something I've experienced. I've noticed it happens more when I eat like crap.

  • I am having a much harder time connecting this pregnancy. With my other two I had an immediate connection and excitement. This one not so much. It's weird to try and explain. So yes. I get it. That paired with hormones and general stress, definitely feeling down lately.

  • Yes, I've had some down days. I usually feel more like myself if I've managed to sleep and if I do something active - at least out of the house! But it is also worth talking to your doc/midwife about, especially if you just can't shake it. I've also heard that the more you can do to take care of mood troubles before baby gets here, the less likely you are to suffer post partum depression (or that it will at least be severe). I'm sorry you're struggling some. I hope it gets better!

I hope it passes soon. I have had a couple down days but not too bad. I do feel like I havent connected to the baby yet. However like others have stated if it gets worse talk to your doctor.

  • As a therapist, I'll put in my two cents for therapy as opposed to seeking medical intervention. There are plenty of cognitive-behavioral interventions that can improve mood, and I think some, though certainly not all, docs are too quick to write a prescription for an antidepressant. Even the pregnancy safe ones have a potential for negative consequences and really should only be used if the benefits clearly outweigh the risk.

  • Yeah, I'm right there with you. I'm a bit worried because I have a history of depression. But I am watching it to be sure it doesn't get too bad. If it lasts too long or gets too bad, I'm going to a counselor first but I might have to talk to my doctor about drugs. Don't be too quick to hate on those if us who need medication. Sometimes talking/therapy can't fix a biological imbalance.
