Baby was due July 3 but turned into a June 30th baby. I woke up at 5:30 that morning to a pop feeling & sound. I didn't feel anything so tried to go back to sleep. When I rolled over I felt a huge gush. We got ready to go ahead and go to the hospital before rush hour traffic. Got there went to triage and was dilated 3cm 50% effaced. Finally got a room and was allowed to labor in the bed or in the glider chair. I wanted to go med free as long as possible and especially avoid pitocin. Things were going well even though the pain was getting worse. I liked that I could move around and use the bathroom as needed instead of being cooped up in a bed. Finally around 9am I decided I would take something for the pain. It made me feel drunk and even though I could feel the pain I didn't care. 2 hrs later meds wore off and the pain was worse than I ever imagined (had epis early on with first two babies). They checked me and baby was fully engaged, fully effaced but I was still stalled out at 4cm. At this point I was about to come unglued from the intense pain and pressure especially in my back. Back labor sucks!!! Around 12:30 I was still at 4cm....this is when I caved and turned a little psycho and demanded an epi right then, like right NOW! Finally, after about an hour I received the epi (not fun during contractions that are about a minute apart). It took a while to kick in and I still had a fair amount of pain in my back but it took me from 4cm to 9cm in a matter of 20 minutes. Around 2:15ish I told them I felt some pressure. They went ahead and checked and said he was +1 station and called the dr in. She told me we would do a practice push. Well to our surprise baby came out on that practice push! It was a little freaky not even really trying to push and suddenly a perfect, crying baby is held up in front of you. My hubby had a look of shock (we thought it was practice so we didn't have the camera ready or anything). Brody was born 6/30 at 2:37 pm 7lb 14oz 21 inches long and the sweetest baby ever! Now we are coping with the breastfeeding. We are still working on this and trying to heal my very sore nips due to latching on improperly. I'm so in love and still can't believe he's here.
