We are broken down in Elmhurst Illinois and we live in Michigan. DD is exhausted, hot, and DS is like wtf. Like on the side of the road in a residential area after DH pushed the car and i steered from a busy road. I'm going to cry.
And this sucks. My sisters bf refuses to help. He doesn't feel like towing us to the dealership that DH spoke with that thinks they can fix it. Her bf is all like "I don't want to, I want to play with my dirt bike today" see if it was the other way around it would be a nonissue because DH would be all about helping.
We've been on the side if the road for almost 4 hours. I really have to pee and the closest public place to do so is a few busy blocks away.
DD is begging for nigh nigh, and DS says he's starving. I'm so frustrated!!!!!!
Our ins won't cover it. It would cost too much to pay to have it towed back to MI, we simply don't have enough money for that.
FIL made some phone calls and got an Avalanche and a trailer and is coming down to bring us and the car home. They won't get here until about 10pm. Then we have to drive home, another 3.5 hours.
That really sucks! I'm so sorry for your crappy day- so much worse when you're OOT. Do you have any roadside assistance through your car manufacturer/warranty? A credit card (our Chase Freedom covers first $50 of any service, IRRC- some of our others have limited coverage, too)? I'm glad your FIL is coming down to save the day, and you won't have to worry about it, but, maybe "next time" (ha- not wishing that on you!)
Being stuck on the side of a busy road has always been up there on my list of fears, but, once I had kids, it really jumped up to the top level. Just soooo not fun. Get home safely!
We have on credit card with a low limit to prevent us from buying what we can't afford, but we just used it for a bunch of medical bills and to fly my mom up from Florida. There's maybe 100-200 left on it. DHs car is 8 years old with 200k miles. It's otherwise in mint condition because he's a car junkie. He and his dad rebuild and mod a huge variety of cars, so he's a stickler for keeping his car in the very best condition.
I think I might see about AAA and another cc for emergency use only.
Ugh. I'm so sorry you guys got stuck in such a shitty situation. Im glad youre off the road and have a way a home at least.
Eta I would definitely look into AAA. Thats what we did before we had DS. mostly bc we never wanted to be stuck on the side of a road with no help available, esp with our kids in the car.

DD is going to be a mess.
