Re: Breastfeeding check in
It has been really good, so much better than before. She's extended (on her own) to 3 hrs in between sometimes 4 during the day so I'm happy and hope that stays.
How old?
2 mo tmr!!
EBF EP or Supp?
We are BF, 1 bottle a day and we have transitioned that bottle from formula to BM so I'm very happy!! Before her demand was just too high but it's evened out so much I can keep up with her.
Challenge /Solutions?
I really wanted to get off daily formula so I started pumping after nighttime feeds bc she never lasts long before she knocks out and I was always still full. I think it has really helped my supply too. Now I have plenty pumped to have extra and freeze plus her bottle before bed.
Rants/Raves?
We still cluster feed at night from 5-8 so I'm ready for that to go away. But I'm really proud of myself bc this is hard! I feel like ppl really don't prepare you well for the actual challenge of BF.
NIP?
Def have! I started early so she would get used to it. I use my cover or I've been able to nurse in the K'tan which always makes me feel like a Ninja

Just be encouraged mommas! If BFing is really a goal of yours you can do it! Keep going and use whatever method you need to and dont let anyone pressure you. You make the right choices for you and your LO.
xoxo
Actually going pretty well, think we went through her 6 week spurt but made it through :-)
How old is LO ? How long between feedings?
She is 6 weeks 2 days and yesterday she started going 2-3 hours between.
EBF, EP, supplementing?
EBF. Trying to pump more to build a stash but for now, pumping about two or three bottles for night feedings.
What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ?
LO started squirming around during feedings, I think it was due to her growth spurt though. Hopefully :-/
Raves and rants?
Very happy with how BF has turned around and I think my supply is slowly getting better.
Have you tried nursing in public yet, where have you fed LO?
Nursed once in public but a few times in the car and in front of family.
Anything else you want to share?
Keep at it ladies! Some days I feel like giving Up but then we have these really good days and reminds me of why I'm doing it :-)
How old is LO ? How long between feedings? 8 weeks tomorrow. He eats a lot in the mornings and then takes a long nap in the afternoon. At night he usually goes a 4-5 hour stretch and then a 2-3 hour one after that.
EBF, EP, supplementing? Breastfeeding at home and pumping for him to have bottles at daycare.
What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ? I just hate pumping and would rather have him here to breastfeed, but I just have to deal with it if I want him to have the breastmilk.
Raves and rants? I hate being back at work and wish I could stay home with him. I hate that he takes bottles during the day, but am glad that he seems to have no problems going between the two.
Have you tried nursing in public yet, where have you fed LO? In the car a couple of times. I am not very skilled at nursing without the boppy. :-/

Anything else you want to share?
How old? How long between feedings? 5 weeks. 1-3 hours. I tend to use the boob to comfort so I probably offer it more than he needs to eat. Oh well! A perk of breastfeeding!
Ebf and pumping at night to build a stash and occasionally so dh can offer a bottle to prepare ds for daycare.
Challenges? Clingy baby! Not causing problems with nursing...just challenging!
Rants and raves. I love the taste of mother's milk tea and am so glad I can drink it again!
Nip? Yep. At the pedi's office and in the parking lot at sam's club. (Some dude made eye contact with me and it was a little awkward.) Without a cover even! Still can't figure out nursing in the beco, which is ds' s carrier of choice.
Pretty good. He's become much more efficient during the day and less time on the breast.
How old is LO ? How long between feedings?
8 weeks today! At night now it's 3-4hours and the day between 1 and 3 hours. He can be a hoarder during the day but at night its like 5 minutes then he's done. But he's a pain to burp since he is passed out.
EBF, EP, supplementing?
EBF. I've started a super small stash. I've pumped like 8 ounces. I'm kinda proud of it!
What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ?
We're still having nip pain and I've realized it comes from the comfort sucking. There was a couple days where he didn't comfort suck at all and I was almost pain free. Then he did it again and it all came back. So now I have to cut him off when it starts to hurt.
Raves and rants?
I have to go buy a nursing bra. Ugh bra shopping is hard on a regular day for me.
Have you tried nursing in public yet, where have you fed LO?
Yep. Random places. I personally don't mind doing it in public. I worry about the day someone says something to me about it. I really need to not care.
Anything else you want to share?
How old is LO ? How long between feedings? 9 weeks yesterday. Every 2-3 hours during the day, longer stretches at night (last night 8 hours, but that was after fighting sleep for 2 hours). Usually at least 4 hour stretches at night. Cluster feeds in the evening.
EBF, EP, supplementing? EBF. Pumping some to get ready to go back to work.
What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ? Girlfriend does NOT want to take a bottle. She has taken 2 in her life. DH has tried with me out of the house, but it gets really frustrating, and we're not sure if she has taken half an ounce, or just gotten that much all over her shirt.
Raves and rants? Rave-- 12 pounds at her 2 month checkup-- almost double her birth weight. Rant-- Need to remember to hold her head when she feeds-- she keeps throwing her head back but doesn't let go of the nip-- ouch!
Have you tried nursing in public yet, where have you fed LO? We NIP a lot, I have to get out of the house to not go crazy. Lots of restaurants, in the car, at Whole Foods...
Anything else you want to share? Nah.
It has been going well, I feel like we have a pretty good handle on it now, still occasional pain though.
How old is LO ? How long between feedings?
He is 6 weeks 4 days. Usually it is 2-3 hours during the day, one 6-7 hour stretch at night. But lately it has been ever hour with one longer stretch for afternoon naptime during the day. But he is still giving me that long stretch at night so not sure if we are in our growth spurt or not.
EBF, EP, supplementing?
EBF, occasional bottles of pumped milk. I usually pump once a day to build my stash.
What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ?
Just the increase in day time feeds. I am happy I can be home to nurse him as he needs it, but I feel guilty for getting so little done around the house. No real solution for it though, I know its part of the deal and DH seems to understand.
Raves and rants?
Rave: Was able to do some hands free nursing this week with the boppy, obviously I was still sitting but it was nice fro me all the same. Definitely haven't gotten it to work every time though.
Rant: LO tends to make "slurping" noises when he is nursing on the right. I am not sure why, it seems like he has a good latch. It does not bother me too much but DH keeps complaining about how loud it is, and grumbles when it wakes him up. This of course annoys the crap out of me since I am the one doing all the motn feeds.
Have you tried nursing in public yet, where have you fed LO?
Several times, usually at restaurants, at a friends house, at the park. I was nervous at first but I kind of forced myself to get over it and try not to worry about what other people think. The only person who has ever said something is my Aunt.
Anything else you want to share?
I am really nervous about going back to work. I hate pumping but want to keep him on breastmilk so I do it anyways. I am worried about finding time to pump, even though I already get a 15 minute break in the morning and afternoon I rarely take it because I am usually not close to the break room, it is a long walk back there, and I don't have much time. So even though my boss is ok with me taking pump breaks I am worried about getting it in my schedule and still getting all my work done in a day. (I am not going back to work until August 1st but I am already anxious about it)

I feel like she's getting more at once now and isn't needing to nurse as often which has been nice. She is sleeping longer stretches at night though so I've been getting pretty full and usually too lazy to get up and pump because I want to enjoy the sleep.
How old is LO ?
7 weeks
How long between feedings?
1 1/2-3 hours depending on naps
EBF, EP, supplementing?
EBF
What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ?
With the long stretches at night I worry I might get mastitis again. I finally finished then medication for that. I'm also feeling like I can't get a break since she won't take a bottle.
Raves and rants?
Mastitis stinks! I also wish I could get a break at times but I enjoy the snuggles and the fact that she still needs me
Have you tried nursing in public yet, where have you fed LO?
Yes, at a friends and at the store
How old is LO ? How long between feedings? 9 weeks. Every three hours during the day, longer at night.
EBF, EP, supplementing? EBF
What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ? Only challenge is that lately he sometimes gets gassy/fussy when nursing.
Raves and rants?
Raves: So glad I no longer have pain!!!! He is also down to one night feeding.
Have you tried nursing in public yet, where have you fed LO? Yes, still just the zoo and my car a few times. At church we have a nursing room which has been awesome.
How old is LO ? How long between feedings? 8 weeks. Can't believe it! Very variable. Usually no more than an hour if awake which is most of the day. Maybe more timing start to start which I still think is a very non-intuitive way to time. What I notice is time not on the boob! And isn't that more relevant for her hunger too? Usually 3-4 or occasionally 5 hours for first nighttime stretch then 1-2.5 hours after that. Can be up to 3 or 4 hours once in daytime if she sleeps but usually the nap is shorter if there even is one.
EBF, EP, supplementing? EBF. Want to start having dh and maybe also MIL give a BM bottle once a day soon so need to get more pumped
What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ? Felt like I had clogged duct(s) or something on the right but I think pumping that side helped. I also think I'm having vasospasms but the weather has been warmer which is mostly not nice but seems to reduce those some. Still something weird going on with right breast though - after the initial gulp gulp time LO starts pulling on nipple and getting upset. And latch on both sides seems close but not quite and worse after boob gets softer. I think I'm going to try to see a LC next week.
Raves and rants?
Raves: LO's smiles! And like PO said it's pretty cool to be able to soothe her almost all the time whether it's just by holding her or by nursing.
Rants: the flip side of the rave - it's not so cool to never be able to put her down or have someone else hold her! There are only so many things I can do one-handed and then with her still nursing so much of the time I am sitting way way too much!
And I feel bad for dh and a little for MIL too when they try to hold her and she cries but then seems happy again when she comes back to me. Plus time is speeding by and she had to go to daycare in I think 7 or 8 weeks and actually there's a (paid and interesting!) professional development weeklong thing before that I really want to be able to do but if she won't stay contentedly with her daddy there's no way. So as much as I love being her #1 special person I really want her daft to catch up at least to a much closer 2nd place! Hope if he starts giving her a bottle it might help.
Have you tried nursing in public yet, where have you fed LO? Lots. A few werks ago i had NIP boot camp in the form of a trip for my mom's memorial service. So airports, airplanes, and then at the house with all of the relatives from my mom's and stepfather's side of the family. Yup. Fun. But got me used to it. Since then various parks and boat ramps while dh goes sailing. Still haven't done in a restaurant though... other than picnic table outside one. Feel weirder about restaurants for some reason.
Can't get to the lines at the bottom of the box. Grr. Anyway my anything else was thank you all for sharing! It's really good to not feel so alone with the challenges and also your problem-solving ideas are very helpful! You are amazing moms - hang in there and keep being amazing!

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? 5 1/2 weeks. Still inconsistent. Up to 3 1/2 hours during the day, but usually only 2 hours at night. I'm ready for him to flip that schedule!
EBF, EP, supplementing? I've started pumping each morning to build a stash and so that DH can do a practice bottle every other day.
What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ? I felt like my supply was diminishing. I tried a recipe for lactation cookies and I do think it helped. And they are yummy!
Raves and rants? I hate pumping. I dread the return to work when I have to do it more often.
Have you tried nursing in public yet, where have you fed LO? As long as I can nurse seated, I whip it out anywhere.
Anything else you want to share? nothing this week
1st BFP-8/17/12! Missed Miscarriage discovered @ 8 week US. D&C.
2nd BFP-2/13/13! Blighted Ovum discovered @ 8 week US. Natural miscarriage.
3rd BFP-5/22/13! By early June, progesterone plummeting. Another loss.
August 2013 - started Donor Egg process, but surprise BFP with my own eggs.
Dear Son born 5/28/14
Not too good. I have definitely struggled since they were born. Just no rhythm. Very frustrating. They are super fussy lately.
How old is LO ? How long between feedings?
6 weeks. 1-3 hrs, last three nights had one longer at 5 hrs.
EBF, EP, supplementing? Supplementing which is a source of frustration and anxiety and guilt. I am just not producing enough for both so I breast feed, burb, change diapers, switch boobs, then feed a few ounces of bottle (some BM, some formula). It's like doing two feedings. I am just now getting to pump some more consistently.
What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ?
Challenge is low supply. OB wants me to try Reglan, but a side effect is depression, which I am terrified of since I feel I have been borderline since they were born. I have tried pumping more to stimulate my supply. It might be helping. Still don't pump enough for a stash and have to use formula.
Raves and rants? See above!
Have you tried nursing in public yet, where have you fed LO? No, I do bottles when out. Really haven't gone out much.

EBF, EP, supplementing? EBF
What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ? She been wanting to only really snack but with the same time stretches. No real fix for that
Raves and rants? I hate pumping!
Have you tried nursing in public yet, where have you fed LO? O yes all the time. Restaurants. In the carrier while hiking. Car. Reception when it got dark
