A bit of background.....Since LO has not been gaining weight well (due to poor latch) his pedi who is also a IBCLC directed me to stop BF and start pumping. She said she wants us to feed him like it is Thanksgiving until next Thursday, at which point his weight will be reassessed. Once his weight stabilizes, we will work on latch/transfer issues.
I started pumping every two hours yesterday with DH and my mom giving him the bottle. We've had to supplement so far with 4oz of formula (believe me I am NOT happy about this at all) when my pumping output can't keep up with his hunger.
I've been keeping a detailed log of every pumping and bottle session, and I have been producing 3oz every two hours from about 3a to 9a, then 2-2.25oz every 2 hours thereafter. LO gets a bottle every 1.5-2 hours, following his cues. Is my pumping output likely to increase with time or is my output the best it will ever be? I am very concerned since I don't want to supplement with formula for the long term, (but of course will give him what he needs to satisfy his hunger.)
I've had so many darn hurdles since LO started BF and am doing the very best I can for my little guy. I am prepared to do whatever it takes to increase my pumping output...if this is even possible. I am drinking TONS of water, eating healthy (including oatmeal every morning), and taking fenugreek.
Sorry for the novel...thank you mamas for your thoughts.
