Teaching 5 week old to nurse, and baby refuses one breast

I am slowly trying to move from EP to BF at 5 weeks PP. We have had some successful nursing sessions in the last few days, although the latch is still a work in progress. He still clamps down like a snapping turtle on my poor nipple, it's like he doesnt relax and open his mouth, he just frantically bites down. Anyway, we are making progress. My bigger issue is he only nurses on one side. He gets angry and refuses one breast. Anyone have insight into why this might be? I pump fine off of that side. He won't even stay on long enough for letdown. I would love any suggestions! Visually I can't tell a big difference between the boobs/nipples. Thanks ladies.

  • Ditto @casey78 - try doing different positions on that side. Baby might have tight muscles that make the positioning on the other side uncomfortable. I've also heard of people taking their babies to a chiropractor for this issue.
