crawling babies & the beach

For those that have taken your crawling LOs to the beach, how do you keep them from nonstop putting sand in their mouths?
We want to go to the beach this weekend but last time we took him to the creek I couldn't stop him from constantly trying to eat the sand & there's more at the beach.

  • Mine was terrified of the sand and would only be held

  • Stay on the wet firm sand as much as possible.

  • Clara did the hand-to-mouth thing when she was first exploring sand, and I did try to limit it by just not letting her in the sand.  Now she's figured out it doesn't taste good anyway, so she more plays with it than tries to eat it.  So maybe learning can happen!

  • I'm worried about this too. The first time my nephew went to the beach, he ate so much sand that it constipated him pretty badly. I'd love to avoid that if we can.
  • As long as we kept a pacifier in our little guys mouth, he couldn't get anything else in there.
