Trying to Get Pregnant

Opinions on Preseed

Dh came home with a tube of preseed from the local drug store. I've done some research and have read both positive and negative reviews about the product. I'm curious to see if anyone who has been ttc has used it before and if it has worked. I'm ovulating now and we have used it but I don't want to put my hope on a tube off gel.

Re: Opinions on Preseed

  • MH complained that it was too slippery when I used it externally like regular lube. But if I use the little injector and just go to the first line (1g) a few minutes before sex it seems to work much better. He doesn't think it is too slippery and we dont need additional (non sperm friendly) lube. Some people are the opposite though, so experiment and find what works best for you and your H.

  • We like it a lot as a lube. You really only need a few drops, or else it's just way the fuck to slippery to actually have sex. It's not going to help get you pregnant, but if you like/need to use lube, it's the best choice while TTC. You'll need to play around to see how much is right for you; start with a little, you can always add more.

  • If you need lube that won't kill sperm, then it works.  Just use it with your fingers and a little bit at a time like you do with regular lube.  (The recommended amount in the little injector tubes will make it like a slip-n-slide...)

Don't put your hope on a tube of gel.  It's only lube.  His sperm is what gets you pregnant.  It's only useful if you're dry and need something to help with the friction.

Actually you need lube all the time. His penis can scratch your vaginal canal and cause an infection.

I have sex without lube quite frequently. Never has my vagina gotten infected.

You do always need to use lube, because you can get minute tears (not scratches sorry) in your vaginal walls, and not know it. When inserting anything such as a penis, fingers, or toy, they all have bacteria. Lube is a layer of protection from bacteria entering into those tears. Which if bacteria does enter from not using lube, you can get an infection. Some women have even had to go to the hospital because of it.

  • BC always made me dry & 1st TTC cycle was not different. So I've been using pre-seed b/c it's sperm friendly. Since starting FertileCM supplement (which I recommend to anyone not producing enough cm) I've started making ewcm right around assumed O, although only in small amounts. So I'll continue to use pre-seed. It's supposed to mimic fertile cm, but that doesn't mean it's going to get you pregnant. Lots of women review it saying "I got pregnant the 1st month I used it" yeah coincidence. No way to say for sure that's what got you pregnant. Also, do not use the directed amount. WAAY too much. Use 1, maybe 2mg. Use the applicators and a tiny bit on the outside. Keep in mind as well, ewcm is regular cm, arousal fluid is different. You can have ewcm but still be dry enough to make it hard for his penis to enter

Funny how my OBGYN & both REs have neglected to mention this.

Unless their degrees included an extensive course on sex like my friend who is a sex therapist, then they wouldn't be aware, or even think to bring it up. I personally never have had extensive conversations with my OB's about how we are doing it.

I feel pretty confident that (most) medical professionals are fairly well versed on the subject of infection prevention. Thanks though.

  • Thanks everyone. Those applicators are the pits I tell you. I was just hoping for some extra umph being that we've been trying for quite a while now. I've personally never had to use lube until recently due to medication I'm on but I've never gotten infections from not having any on. That sounds rough :|
  • We bought it as soon as we started trying to conceive. We don't always use it but on day four of every day sex, it is helpful especially since I don't produce a lot of fertile CM by myself anyway. Truly it's been a life saver but only as a lube. That's all it is really, a sperm-friendly lubricant. It isn't any more expensive than the average lube so I think it's a good investment either way.

I'll started using pre seed last month. We found it worked quite well as a lubricant but only needed to be used sparingly. I didn't use the tube things.

  • I don't doubt that sex can cause some internal trauma, but that is why sometimes you wipe post-sex and there can be a small bit of pinkish discharge. This is pretty common.

Raging vaginal infections from this? Not so much.

  • It is my understanding from a little bit of Dr Google and a little bit of my RE, that PreSeed is only like EWCM so far as the does-not-render-sperm-immobile qualities go. Other than that, its really just a sperm friendly replacement for arousal fluid, which makes sex easier if you don't have enough arousal fluid or fertile CM of your own, but does not actually help sperm travel like fertile CM.
  • My only complaint is that it dries up quickly. We always end up having to stop and reapply in the middle of the act.

lube can actually make you more susceptible to infections. Most brands contain glycerin, which bacteria and yeast love to feed off of. Also, lubes with spermicides may be irritating to the vagina and make you more susceptible to infections, including HIV.

PS... Preseed does not contain glycerin (I'm pretty sure), but most major brands do (astroglide, etc). Obv it doesn't contain spermicide either.
