How have the LO's done with the July 4th festivities?

Better than expected? Total meltdowns? Still out partying?

Our town has a full day of celebrations so we were out all morning until about 12:30 and DD was a trooper. Came home and she took two good naps.

Then we went to the parade and she actually fell asleep for most of it but after about an hour i thought I better get her out of there rather than getting stuck in the huge crowd of people all leaving at once. Left DH and DS to continue the festivities with our friends. Thank goodness I left when I did - about 4 minutes from home DD started screaming and by the time I popped her out of her seat she was hysterical. It took me a good five minutes to calm her down.

She is finally chilled out but there is no way I would try to take her to the fireworks tonight - she would have a breakdown!

  • She was scared when the emergency vehicles came through the parade. Napped short naps all day. Kind of fussy in spurts. We just hung out at my parents' house all afternoon. We're 10 min from home now and I have plans to nurse her and pop her in bed by 9. Hopefully she'll transition easily.
  • @MrsW26‌ - hope she does ok tonight!

  • @MaiTaiBeth‌ - we always have huge fireworks going off in our neighborhood - I can hear them now. DD is out cold and I am hoping I can sleep through them.

@MaiTaiBeth‌ and @*sparky* - I want to TP the neighbors for their large and very illegal fireworks display. I'm at a relatives' vacation home and they are booming in the background. DD is sleeping somehow, and she has a cold and potential eye infection. If she doesn't get sleep tonight, I'm going to lose it! I'd call the cops to stop the noise, but then it wouldn't take the neighbors long to find out which house called it in (small neighborhood). Please don't wake my DD! [-O<
  • DS is 10 weeks so he doesn't really know what's going on. He slept all through strawberry picking, the parade, and fireworks in the babyc carrier. DD loved everything(shes 2) and was surprisingly fine up late and with no nap.

  • No parade or fireworks for us, but we did have a big family BBQ at my parents'. He did great with all the people & noise and got some good naps in, went to bed at the usual time too!

We are having a dr. Who marathon so no festivities. DD2 loving dr. Who

Good marathon choice :)I love Dr. Who - I can't wait for the new season!

DD was horrible last night - up every 2.5ish hrs. Stupid cold :( But then she took a 3 hr nap from 11-2 and I napped right along with her. Then we went to the in-laws and she did great. I even got to go swimming and eat supper with 2 hands :-) She took another long nap kinda late though from 9:00-11:00. It was nice at the time since I got to watch some fireworks and do a few sparklers, but now I'm worried she'll be up a lot again tonight. I should really be sleeping instead of bumping...

We went to the baseball game and she did pretty good! I misjudged her feeding cues and she had an epic meltdown. Took me 5 minutes to get her to latch. But after that she just kinda hung out, even took a nap! She was totally unimpressed with the fireworks though. She didn't cry, which I expected, she just didn't even seem to notice them.
  • She was pretty fascinated by the fireworks!  Here is LO during some crazy-ass street fireworks action earlier.
  • It was ds's 3rd birthday, so we had a crazy amount of family in the house. Both kids help up really well.

We went to the fireworks with dd asleep in her car seat, and she transferred great when we got home, and she didn't wake to eat till 5am

Apparently DD needs fireworks to get a good nights sleep. She slept 8 hours! A new record for her by far!

She couldn't care less about the firework noise, but the heat did her in. And the poor thing was only in it for about 20 minutes because she had her 2 month shots Wednesday so that didn't help. We were home resting skin to skin most of the afternoon. At one point the poor thing was hysterical and as I was consoling her diaperless she pooped all over the floor while simultaneously throwing up down my back. Poor baby!! We saw a few fireworks from our front porch and went to bed by midnight. She just woke up and is nursing like a madwoman. She keeps kicking me in the face. Ha!!

  • She did great...until everyone wanted to pass her around and get in her face and then she LOST IT. And what do you know- no one wanted to hold her after that so I got to deal with it!
  • @diamondtaurus - ugh, that stinks!

  • DD had a crazy weekend! We were at my parents (2 hrs away) for a while yesterday, then came home and had a cook out with friends. Then firworks at night - which she completely slept through. Today we spent the whole day (10-5) at an air show. She did great. We did have hearing protection for her and wearing those were the worst part for her it seemed!

  • B stayed awake through a whole baseball game and the fireworks that followed on Thursday, then survived "pass the baby" at a friend's cookout. We brought her to those fireworks too. She did ok, but I kept her ears covered for the most part. She fell asleep on the ride home and  slept for 12 hours Friday night.
