Taking LO to a restaurant

I've only been out to restaurants with DD twice and both times I kept her in her stroller and held her as needed but I'm wondering what everyone else does with their LO's when you go to a restaurant? Stroller, car seat, hold them, wear them? I'm thinking there is probably a better option then what I've been doing...

Re: Taking LO to a restaurant

  • I would wear them. Right up against you and they should sleep so you can eat :)

Lots of places have slings for them.

  • I have done car seat either in a booth or sling. I didn't even know the slings existed until a waitress offered it, they're very handy.
  • She falls right asleep in her wrap, so I wear her and am able to get through dinner in peace :-)

  • We go in car seat.we usually set her seat on the table depending on space. Also a lady at the huddle house showed us on the standard wooden high chairs lots of place have, flip it upside down and the carseat fits on it just like in a grocery store cart.so neat.then you can place lo at end of table like they were a toddler

  • Carseat and only if she is asleep. Which means only lunch out since dinnertime is fussy clusteefeed time. We just put the carseat on the floor tucked in by us. Well one time she wasn't asleep yet but we sat outside so there was room to swing her in the seat. And that was just panera.

Carrying the carseat is a pain but getting her out of it and back in is even worse!

  • We usually keep him in the car seat unless he gets fussy.  If he gets fussy, one of us will hold him.
  • We have left him in the car seat, and we put it in the booth, on a chair, or flip the highchair and put it there.
  • Thanks for the responses everyone. Tried her in the car seat tonight in the booth, I sat next to her so I had easy access to her, it worked really well.
  • Car seat/stroller. I just ask for a table that can accommodate my stoller. It's never a problem.

This is what we do as well. We've gone out over a dozen times since we had visitors for the first month.

We were told yesterday that having the stroller is a fire hazard. First of all we were sitting on a patio outside of the place so I highly doubt that. Secondly, they gave us the high chair thing to turn upside down. How is that safer in case of a fire? It doesn't roll like a stroller. And they put it in the middle of the aisle in people's way instead of tucked away behind my chair which is where I would have put the stroller. Very flawed logic people!! They had to keep it up front. Bs.

    Sorry, end rant.

This. If DD is too fussy, she gets a boob in her mouth. Works every time. Sometimes I take the scenic route to the restaurant so that LO falls asleep in her car seat.

  • We keep him in the seat. We probably only have a few more months of that as an option if he follows big brother's footsteps but we'll take it while we can. Normally I end up feeding/holding him by the end though.

Congrats to my GP Sister from another mister Bruinsbabe!!

  • We keep her in her car seat and bring the snap 'n go stroller in. Once you put the handle down it takes up about the same amount of space as a sling they have, but you can lock the wheels and is much more sturdy. The slings make me nervous in case they get bumped.

  • I've had success leaving DS in his car seat with a cover over the top to keep it dark and comfy. He usually sleeps through, and if not, will chomp away on a pacifier.

  • Sometimes wear him but mostly in car seat except when people want to hold him.

I wear her .. It gets challenging trying not to drop stuff on her.. haha.. I like reading about others' methods

    @libbylu7‌ where were you?
  • I wear her. Slightly limits what you can eat but otherwise it works fine. Most restaurants here won't let you bring a stroller inside, there's just not enough space, welcome to Boston!

  • I haven't even attempted to take DD to a restaurant. She cries in her car seat, her stroller, the car... So I'm guessing the restaurant thing wouldn't go well :/
  • We've been out to eat 3 times now. Each time I feed DD right before leaving the house. She falls asleep in her car seat. Since DH is there we don't bring the stroller and DD stays in the car seat either on the booth next to me or on the floor by my chair. We have a car seat canopy that we keep closed and she sleeps the whole time. We make sure not to be out more than 2-3 hrs just to be safe
  • We take the car seat in and place it in one of the slings. We leave her in the car seat if it's just us but if we're meeting up with someone it's usually so they can see her and than we take her out and they hold her until the food arrives and than we put her back into the car seat.

  • I go to the restaurant right when they open- say 11:00 for lunch service, and use the car seat in the stroller. Since they have to accommodate wheelchairs, they can accommodate my baby. Worked great so far at Cheesecake Factory and PF Changs.
  • I wear him or hold him.
