Hi ladies! We are really starting to research some things that we will need to buy for our LO. I'm looking into getting a good video monitor. Does anyone have any that they would recommend? Thanks!!!
I'm just going with the old fashioned audio monitor. Mainly because I'm cheap and I don't want to spend $$$ on a monitor when the one I found is like $30
I'm getting the motorola this time. I've heard nothing but good things.
I was cheap last time and got a Foscam. It worked great until it got hacked! That morning sucked and creeped me out forever. So unless you or YH are techy and set it up on a very secure line it's not worth the hack.

I just registered for a Summer Infant Baby Link wifi internet camera which seems pretty cool. If no one buys it off of the registry I'll have to get it for myself Bc it seems really awesome. Plus I can take it to my moms or buy her one and I can check up on the baby when I go back to work!
And I will add that I know it's expensive but it did help me tremendously with sleep training and random wake ups. I was able to peek and not go in and risk disturbing her and having her really wake up and want me to hold her at 2am.

We have the Infant Optics one. It's about $100 on amazon. Video monitor that turns the screen off when there is no sound detected. Turns back on automatically when there is sound. We have been pretty pleased with it. 2 years of nightly use, and still going strong the antenna snapped off. I glued it back on, still works no problem.
I've heard really good things about the Angel Care monitor - it has video, and a motion sensor that will go off if it stops sensing movement. It's cheaper on Amazon than Babies R Us, FWIW.
I'm using dropcam. You watch via iPhone, iPad, or Android. You can set times you want to turn it on, it can send you notifications if movement is recognized, two way talk, and works well at night. It isn't a baby monitor but used as security. I didn't want to spend the money on something I will get a small amount of time with. I like that I can use it as security when baby doesn't need it. I also work in technology specializing in home technology so my inner nerd wanted it.
I love my angelcare. I borrowed a non video angelcare from a girlfriend when DS was born and it was great. Then my friend had a baby so I needed to give hers back. I found a used one online but it has video. I love love love it. The motion sensor gives me so much peace of mind. When this LO is born I will switch to a different monitor for DS, maybe a cheap video one if I can find one and then use the angelcare with the baby. The video part wouldn't have mattered when DS was little but now that he is moving around its great to spy on him. Lol
We will be looking into one where we can connect to our smart phone. I saw one awhile back, don't remember the brand though. :-<
Not to freak you out but I was talking to my H about this and he read an article recently where someone was able to tap into the WiFi those travel on and was using it to scream and talk to the baby through the monitor. So with that said I will not be doing any with wifi ability.
We went with a simple audio only monitor. For the first few months, MW slept on the couch with LO next to her for the first few months. Then, when we moved LO to the crib, we used the noise monitor. Our rooms are across a landing area from each other so with the doors open and my sensitive hearing we didn't need anything else.
I love the Motorola one, but didn't get it. I have the Angel Care with motion sensor though, and while there are a few things I'm not crazy about it, it really eased my mind. I had a scare with my kiddo and dropped the money in a heartbeat after. I highly recommend it if you're an anxious mama like me!
We have the Summer Infant video monitor and have loved it, we still use it at 2 years old. Call me crazy but we still like knowing what DS is doing when he wakes up in the middle of the night. We will use the same one with LO too.

How about the ones that have motion detectors? Is that overkill? I am super paranoid so seems like it would be comforting.
My .02 is that they're not worth it. False alarms will induce more panic than any perceived benefit. Motion sensors have never been shown to prevent or reduce incidence of unexplained infant death.
People always talk about false alarms, but we had maybe two total, and only because we didn't have it set right. If you adjust the sensitivity this won't happen. They will tell you if your child isn't breathing within a few seconds, and to me that was worth it.
Here's more info. I think the primary reason they recommend against them is that there is no definitive scientific data to support manufacturers' claims that these monitors can prevent infant death (just logical conjecture):
Again, totally personal decision on ther merit. NIH also recommends against them. I think they just want parents to understand that no type of monitoring system--audio, video, or otherwise--is going to prevent sudden infant death. To believe that it will is faulty thinking. That said, it doesn't mean that your family might not appreciate having one.
I know, nothing prevents SIDS, but there are other things that could happen. I had a huge scare with my daughter and this gave me peace of mind after despite my pediatrician telling me all of the research you shared. Yes, to each her own.
I didn't read any one else's response but I love my Motorola. Like so much. We had an angel care before but te screen got damage so we had to buy a new one. Thank god because the Motorola is 100000 times better.
I totally love the Angelcare monitor. I used it through 2 kids and never had a false alarm. It would just go off when I took the baby out of the crib and forgot to turn it off. Never really thought of it as a way of preventing SIDS, more like a way to ease my anxiety about SIDS and help me sleep better. So if one morning the baby sleeps a couple hours later than usual, no need to panic and run in to check because if something was wrong, the alarm would have gone off. Mine is 6 years old though so I used it in conjunction with a video monitor because they didn't come with video back then.

You said this so much better than me! It helped me not go in to check breathing when I was feeling anxious. Worth it!

This. I really like our Angelcare monitor. Once you play around with the settings you won't get false alarms.

Agreed. I love our Summer Infant video monitor. We'll purchase a second monitor for this peanut and we can toggle back and forth between both nurseries.

I will also admit that when she was in our room for the first few months she wore a Snuza and then had an AngelCare once she moved to her crib (removed that around 11ish months).
As for what we're doing with this kid- I have no clue. DD has white noise so if we just add another camera and put it on "scan" (to go between rooms) the 2 white noises will drive me nuts switching every few seconds or minutes or whatever it does.
