Operation Crib Transition is Underway..

Wish me luck tonight! DS is 3 MO and attempting to sleep in his crib for the first time tonight. He previously slept in RNP and in a sleep sack. I gave up swaddling him over a month ago. I am getting concerned about the back of his head getting so flat from the RNP. He normally goes to bed about 7, wakes to eat around 12 and 4, and up for the day at 7. The other thing I did to hopefully aid in this transition was to put him in the Magic Merlin suit. I'll report back tomorrow on how it goes! Fingers crossed and extra prayers for a good night :-)

I hope it goes well! We're setting up the crib sometime in the next few days so we'll be making that transition soon too :)

  • Thanks! My DH picked up some yummy beer tonight but I'm afraid to even have any bc I don't know what the night is going to bring ughhhh! My DD made the transition without a hitch but this little guy doesn't sleep as well as she did. Good luck to you!
  • So I just Googled this "magic Merlin suit" and... It looks hilarious!!

  • My little turd pukes too much if we don't keep him upright for at least thirty minutes after he eats.. He hasn't slept longer than 45 minutes laying flat, so the crib has been a no go so far. I started a bedtime routine tonight that hopefully if it goes well in a few weeks we can start to transition to the crib instead of the bouncy seat.

Have you tried putting the crib mattress at an angle? We just used some blankets when we first transitioned and it worked just as well as a seat!

  • This is my LO in his magic sleep suit! So cute my little marshmallow and it has made the crib transition pretty smooth- though by smooth l mean he was a terrible sleeper in his rnp and is now a semi terrible sleeper in his crib.
  • UPDATE- I think my DS will be taking the RNP with his ass to college. He went to sleep at 7 as usual. He basically passes out then bc he's a shitty napper. He flipped his shit when I first put him in crib but I tried again and he went to sleep. Instead of waking around 12-12:30 he woke at 11:30. Gave a bottle, he fell asleep and back to crib. Woke 3.5 hours later at 3 which is about an hour earlier than usual. DH gave another bottle and tried putting him back in crib. No go. He finally have up and put him in RNP still in MM suit ( which BTW YES is hilarious..even more so to have your son in a PINK MM suit since we used it for DD ha). He woke up pissed off at the world at 6:45 instead of at 7 when he's usually content and just looking around the room for a while. He wasn't even hungry when he woke up. He was just a mad little man. So the MAGIC suit didn't work any magic on my crappy sleeper. So WWYD? Attempt crib transition in MM again? Attempt crib transition without MM? Back to RNP with MM suit? Or continue what we did before - RNP in sleep sack? DS is huge and according to ped is at max formula intake per day. So I don't get why he won't give a longer night stretch ughhh. Advice???

So your LO is sleeping better in crib? Did you have your LO in MM suit in RNP first?
  • Also just want to add..considering putting Crib mattress on an incline. He doesn't seem to like lying flat. He doesn't have reflux but that may help with transition from RNP??
  • Does the MM suit work?

I didn't use the suit with the rnp because the combo seemed super constrictive. We only use it in the crib and it does help. Tho the first 3 nights we used it we had to take him out of it at his 4am feeding and just put him in the rnp because he was getting mad at it. But he's much better with it now and I think he even likes it.
  • It took at least a week or two to fully transition for us. At first, he'd only go down in his "crib"* initially and then went to the RNP after the other wakings. Then he'd only need the RNP for the final stretch of sleep. Now our RNP is more or less retired and he's sleeping beautifully in his crib. Just keep trying.

  • You are going to exhaust yourself with all this fretting! I would say, pick one thing and stick with it. If you want him in the crib, keep him in the crib. He'll get used to it.
And really, our babies do whatever they want. It's cute that we think we "know" their routine, but as soon as we have it figured out, it changes.
