Do you consign?

I consign DS's clothes at a local shop not far from us. Considering the time it takes to go through his clothes, pick out the good ones, put them on hangers, make an appt. with the shop, see what the shop takes and then 2 months later go back and pick up unsold items. About 6 - 8 weeks after the end of my consignment period I get a check for maybe $20. LOL. About half the items I take in each actually sell. I like the idea of supporting this local military spouse store, I'm just not sure if it's worth it. Ahh. Do you consign? Do you get any monetary return on your items?

  • I'm seriously thinking about setting up shop at my Dad's neighborhood's next garage sale. It's worth a shot. I'm pretty sure most of us don't have the want or need to save our little one's outgrown clothes! I did give a bunch of shirts and shorts to my friend who has a son my kid's age, but wears a size smaller.

  • I'm still fence sitting enough (mostly due to dh) that things get saved. I do consign my own crap though!

  • We don't. I give all lo's good clothes to our friend (mostly jammies since has almost everything else), and give the rest to Goodwill as a donation.

I don't.  I donate it or hand me down to my nephew.  Friend of mine sells her kids clothes on line (not sure the site she uses) and does extremely well.
  • I don't either -- I usually hand down or donate. Or throw away, since DD loves to destroy her clothes.

  • I belong to a local FB group where we sell Janie and Jack, Gymboree and Gap stuff. I've met some nice ladies on there that now I just email and have them come over to browse at my house and will usually buy any other better brands that I have, too (the swapping board is just for those three brands). Anything that doesn't have much of a resale value I give away. I'm a super sale shopper so I can usually resell for close to what I paid and when I can sell in lots, it's totally worth it because there's almost no inconvenience.

  • No, I donated most of DS' clothes to a local shelter.

  • We do Once Upon A Child for immediate credit and give the rest to either friends or a neighborhood thrift store. There are local Facebook resell groups but that's way too much work to me. And I never do yard sales, buying or selling. Again, the effort.

  • No. We hand me down his clothes as most of them were given to us. I sell the good stuff (jumperoo, Bumbo, etc.) at work or on CL. We put the really nice stuff on eBay, like my Boba carrier that I expect to get $60 or so on. I just don't know where the consignment stores are either!
