NBR Reading

Newborns are a lot of work, but has anyone managed to find time to read?

I've surprised myself and have still been able to read almost as much as before, thanks to motn feedings (helps keep me awake). So what has everyone been reading? Anything good? Any new books you are waiting for releases?

Re: NBR Reading

  • I'm not a big reader but want to find a good book to occupy my time. I'm going to follow this for suggestions!

I started The Light Between Oceans for motn feedings but haven't gotten far because I'm usually too tired to read
  • I'm awaiting a book release from my favorite author kristen ashley, which comes out next week. It's the 5th book in one of her series (the first 4 ebooks are currently on sale for $.99 if anyone is interested) so I may re read some of those (the 2nd and 4th are my favs).

Other than that, I've been reading some random books that come up for free on my bookbub list.

I really want to read The Fault In Our Stars but everyone told me it is terribly terribly sad and I'm not sure if I'm ready for thst yet. So far it's just been Harry Potter

I've had this book on my Kindle for months and haven't read it yet for this reason. I'm a HEA reader, so I can never find myself in the mid to read something sad.

  • @nelleebelle‌ the glass castle sounds right up my alley I'm going to try it! Thanks :)
@mrsdbc me too. People that know me have actually told me not to read it BC they know how much I hate doomed from the start love stories. I actually have never seen Titanic or the Notebook for those reasons also.

Right now I'm reading The Witch's Daughter, it was recommended to me by the goodreads app based on other books I've liked. Eh, we'll see. I can't wait though for the third book in the Discovery of Witches trilogy, pretty sure it's coming out in a week or two. Another book I'm waiting to read is City of Heavenly Fire. Once I read it the series is over and I don't want it to end!

  • I am also doing a lot of reading during feedings.

Just finishing The Goldfinch, which is really really good. Better than any of Donna Tartt's other books.

Next up is The One and Only by Emily Giffin.
  • I ordered the Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh and the H&W Investigations series by Jess Haines. Don't know much about these authors but it was recommended by amazon and goodreads based on books I've read.

I'm anxiously awaiting the very last Hollows book by Kim Harrison (comes out in sept). I love this series and hope I'm not disappointed with the ending.

Since I can't wait for FFFC I'll post it here since it's book related. I named my son after one of my favorite werewolves. Lol! Well, his middle name, but still. ;)

I'm reading The Flamethrowers and am enjoying it. I have finally gotten the hang of reading while I BF.
  • Currently Dr Sleep by Stephen King. I have the Outlander books on my tablet though

  • @Read247‌ I've read several of the psy-changling series by Nalini Singh and I really enjoyed them. Haven't read any of the guild hunter ones, but I imagine they'd be good too.

@jmar2011‌ Ditto. The Fever Series is one of my all time favorites so I always feel like someone who likes those as much as I do is more likely to have similar taste in other books. Have you read her highlander series?
  • I'm currently reading Still Missing by Chevy Stevens. It's pretty good. After that I'm going to read American Gods by Neil Gaiman.
  • I really enjoy the classics - Crime & Punishment, Anna Karenina, etc. somehow though I haven't found time to even catch my breath but I'm hoping to once all the basic stuff (getting insurance squared away, handling visitors, that type of thing) is out of the way. I feel like I had a lot more free time on leave with DD. On my list of must-reads before I go back to work is The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand; I read one of her others, Atlas Shrugged, and loved it so I'm hoping for another long, involved story to sink my teeth into. Proud and a bit jealous that y'all have managed to do so much reading!
  • What is this Fever series you ladies keep mentioning? I'm reading the seventh book in the Outlander series, but really want to reread Outlander before the show premiers in a month (!!!!!). I also have a Nora Roberts from the library, but I don't know if that will get read.

  • I was reading Away by Jane Urquhart, but it was weird and too hmmm... 'thinking' for where my brain is at right now, so I jumped to the other end of the spectrum and picked up The Gathering by Kelley Armstrong, which is YA fantasy. I don't read much YA, but so far, it's been pretty decent to read during feedings.

  • @sempre_staccato‌ the gathering is part of a YA series by Kelley (3 books in two different series). It's a spinoff of her adult series Bitten. They are all very good.

Yes! That's one of the reasons I picked it. I figured if I enjoy the first book, I'll have a whole series of enjoyable light reads to get me through feedings in the wee hours. I'll have to check out the adult series too, I think.

I love, love, love anything by Jeannette Walls. The Glass Castle was amazing and so was All the Pretty Horses. I forgot that she had a new one out so I will need to download that one asap. Hubby and I just finished reading a book by comedian Bert Kreischer- the guy who does the show Trip Flip- and it was freaking hysterical. Perfect for MOTN feedings since it's an easy read and is laugh out loud funny. Thinking I am going to start the Game of Thrones series next.
