6 week growth spurt. Btdt moms: how did you deal?

FTM. DS hit his 6 week spurt on Monday. He has been fussy, not napping, and obviously eating on the hour, along with major need to comfort suck. He's refusing the paci and won't let anyone but me hold him.

I just need a bit of support. How long did it last for your LO? Was this the hardest one yet for you? And when did you know it was over? I'm just exhausted.

  • DS was on bottles by then. He was hungry for 48 hours but happy as long as I kept him fed. It was so much easier than what I'm currently going through with DD, who is EBF. I'm exhausted and not dealing well.

  • Going through it too. Started last week then we had a few better days but then today is the worst. Hang in there!! We'll get through it!!
  • Everything @danagmauro‌ said! My DD was a little cranky pants and the only thing that she liked was going for a walk in the stroller, hardly any daytime naps, needed to be held & rocked constantly.

Now we're at 8wk2days and she's starting to get back to her old self. She just got up from a 2hr nap, yay!
  • I'm in the same boat! You're not alone, but no advice sorry!

I felt like it only lasted 3-4 days for both my boys. And like a PP said, we were bottle feeding for both of them by that point, so it wasn't quite the ordeal it is when you are BFing. Hang in there, it does get easier.

We went through this a couple days ago. We alternated between bottle and boob because I couldn't keep up and so DH could give me a break. Then it passed and he slept for 7 hours because he wore himself out.

  • We have been going through this the last few days with today being the worst. Feeding pretty much every hour during the day. He slept one 2 hour stretch last night and then 45 minute stretches after that. He's cranky and does not like to nap. Hoping this is over soon!

  • I feel all you ladies. DS hit 6 weeks on Monday and not sleeping screaming all day and just wants me to hold him. Luckily he's so spent by the end of the night he sleeps for 4-6 hours. That's the only positive. Today has been the better of the last 3 days. He's actually sleeping during the day and not crying. I hope the bad is in the past. Just want my boy to be happy.
  • @danagmauro‌ it sounds like your describing my girl! Totally different baby after that growth spurt!

Hang in their momma's, there's light at the end of the tunnel!
  • If DS is not attached to my boob he's screaming. I found the car ride was all that calmed him down. But I can't stay awake to drive all the time!

  • I'm with you. DD started this today. She's clingy and fussy. Her 4 week one only lasted 2 days. FX this one is the same.

  • You just have to ride it out. With dd it was no big deal. A few days of incessant eating andwanting to be held. My frame of reference is my son's 3 month spurt though OMFG that was five days of hell. Boy went from the 15th % to the 75th% with that bad boy.

DS will be 6 weeks Tuesday. Last night was the first night he slept in bed with me while side lying nursing because he would not stay asleep when we set him down and I was losing it. He's been crabby all day and fighting sleep like crazy. If this isn't the six week spurt I'm dreading it. Add to that DD hasn't gotten a nap yet and is crabby too. We tried to go shopping 1/2 mile from our house and 3/4 of us ended up in tears. Happy 4th...

  • DD is 5.5 weeks and wow the last few hours have been rough. I BF and supplement, but she clearly prefers the boob. In the past 6 hours, she's been nursing almost continuously as well as having two bottles. Heartbreaking cries only consoled by eating. Not only am I feeling bad that I don't have better supply, but my nipples feel like they're about to fall off. It gets better, right?

My goodness you guys are describing my days recently too! I almost broke down and cried at the restaurant tonight. It has been hard for me not to be hard on myself throughout all this, like I am not doing a good job because they are fussy all day. So good to hear this might be their growth spurt and it is not me. This has been so hard on me so I feel for all of you, too. Went next door to a neighbor's party today and there was a very judgmental lady there insinuating I was crazy for getting them out (I lived next door), insinuated I was "not a real mother" if I chose to go back to work, asked if she could pick up my child because he was screaming (his twin was in my arms and screaming and I had stepped outside to get DH so we could head home to BF). I can't believe a mom would insult another mom. It is hard as it is. We should support each other!!!

  • Side-lying nursing at night will help you get through the late-night nursing sessions. During the day, I recommend baby-wearing.

  • So I finally just packed up on Friday night and drove to my parents house. DH ended up sick and was going to be no help and I was in tears. I came home this afternoon feeling better. I had help, got to sleep, and DS came home a lot calmer. Mommy and baby needed a break.

After several days of eating like a ravenous beast and refusing to sleep after the MOTN feeding, LO slept like a dream last night. Six hours and then another 3.5 after the MOTN feeding.

I feel like a human being again (rather than a sleepwalking set of nipples). I'm afraid to hope it's more than a fluke though....

Oh, this is a nice reminder I think of what is happening in our & our babies' bodies during these spurts.
