Possible Induction due to size (STMs)

Hey ladies,

Anyone hear of inducing early due to size. My son is a tad bit on the wee side and they have been watching him closely over the last two months by weekly cord readings and every two week U/S. They informed me last week I may have to deliver earlier if he has hit his hault in growth. In three weeks he has only gaine .50 lbs according to them. So he is measuring behind. They are saying the want to induce 1-2 weeks early which split my 4 weeks left in half.... anyone familiar with this?

I think that is called intrauterine growth restriction? And from what I've heard, can be very dangerous. I've only had second hand info about it though. A friend of a friend had this and ended up delivering around 32 weeks (again, hearsay).

Definitely talk with your ob! Good luck and t&p that your LO starts gaining again!

That's usually a very good reason to be induced and if they have been monitoring you then you know it's not just one ultrasound that was off.

Same thing happening to me here. I'm also having ultrasounds every week to watch the blood flow from the cord. She is currently measuring 7th percentile, and if she drops below 5th, they will induce at 37 weeks. The doctors say it's safer for the baby on the outside at that point.

Yea I just feel so out of the loop. They never go into detail when I ask questions they look confused. I really wish I could change doctors but I feel like it's a little late in the game.

I would think, like someone said already, that it could be an indicator of IUGR. I don't really know much about it, but I would ask your doctor rather than Googling, because Lord knows the Internet will only give you the worst case scenario!

With my first I was induced a week early because I had a bit of protein in my urine and baby wasn't continuing to grow as much as they would have liked. She was small but healthy when she was born - 5 lbs 15 oz.

If the baby is failing to thrive on the inside then they normally take the baby early. But they shouldn't if the baby is large.

I was induced with my first because she was measuring small (5lbs 2oz at 37 weeks). My OB said there could be issues with the placenta or I could just genetically have small babies. I had to go to MFM every 2-3 days to check blood flow & baby activity. At 39 weeks they decided to induce me. DD was 6lbs 2oz & the placenta appeared healthy. I have a 36 week growth scan next week & will learn if I'm going to travel the same path again. If it's any consolation, I have a great experience with my induction. Good luck!

Yea, last week on Tuesday he was weighing in just at 35w4ds at 4lbs. (estimate) they said that was measuring higher too. So this Tuesday we will check the blood flow again and then the following a size check and if he didn't grow more than what they want they are going to induce. So we shall see.... I just wish I knew now what the plan is... I kinda hate living week by week lol
