TWW - do you do anything special?

Curious, does anyone do anything special during the tww? Any "special" foods you eat or avoid? Abstain from exercise? Just relax?

  • I follow all the prego food rules, meditate to minimize stress, eat lots of red meat, and put Maca root in my morning smoothy with fruit and Greek yogurt.

Music is my biggest escape from time besides work. I also don't drink (maybe 1 glass of red one every now and then). I heard fresh pineapple is supposed to be good and promote implantaion. Some sites say eat what you want. Others say warm foods and spicy foods are supposed to be good as well. I usually dont change much of what I do.

Maca root?! This is the first I've heard about it (I naturally did a quick google search). Can someone fill me in a bit about where to get it/how much to use?

I haven't been doing well health wise so I'm focusing on that. Being active and eating better for me is more important now.

Before now I would try to relax, not exercise (except for work). But I ate fish if I wanted to and drank in moderation.

ETA: I haven't been told by my doc or Hs doc about gluten. That's interesting. But my diet change involves eliminating gluten.

  • I ate fresh pineapple and gave up caffeine on my last cycle but it didn't help ;). I will pretty much eat whatever random food the internet recommends. Anything to feel like I have some control!! What is maca root?

Official diagnosis: Unexplained IF. I am 32. I have low ovarian reserve (low AMH), and poor egg quality. I've also been diagnosed with mild glandular developmental arrest (lining problems, detected with EFT).

We are using open ID donor sperm. IUIs #1-7=BFN. IVF September 2014 antagonist protocol, 8R,5M,3F, 5 day transfer of 1 morula = BFN. IVF#2 planned for January 2015 (antagonist protocol + HGH).

Maca root is a Peruvian root vegetable. When the Spanish arrived in Peru they noticed such an impact on "fertility" that they actually wrote home about it. It also has hormone balancing properties, especially progesterone levels. Black maca tasts bitter and helps with male fertility, red maca is sweeter and helps with female fertility. It's available in pills or powder. I got the powder for my morning smoothy. It's about $38 per lb. If you have skin issues, try cutting out the glutin. It won't hurt you to give it an 8 week try. My feet used to blister, crack and peel so badly that I couldn't walk. I cut out the glutin a few months ago and have noticed a remarkable difference in my skin, energy, and digestive health.

  • @eskimozie‌ that's really interesting. All of the gluten and Maca Root stuff. Can you get it as a root? I wonder how'd you eat it. I'll have to google that.

  • I've never seen whole maca root, but I live in small town Idaho. I'll bet in you live in a city with an ethnic produce market you might find it. I just stir a teaspoon (ish) in to my morning smoothy or saturday pancakes.

  • It's probably somewhere as I live in a major metropolitan area in Texas. And we have such a culturally diverse community.

From a very brief search online the recipes only call for maca powder.

It also has a ton of benefits. Including improved energy levels. But this is the only warning I found :

Maca is high in iodine and should not be taken by people with thyroid disease. It has stimulant properties and can raise heart rate. Some people have reported stomach upset after large doses. If you are pregnant or nursing, never take this or any health supplement without first consulting you're doctor. https://www.herbslist.net/maca-root.html

I had never heard of Drink til it is pink, but I am in love with it now. lol I was talking to a friend who knows we are TTC and it was our honeymoon at an all inclusive and I wanted to drink and it would be like DPO 4-9. She kept saying not to drink. Turns out there wouldn't have been anything to worry about anyways.

  • thank you for this post! sometimes i feel crazy for being so concerned about the tww. it doesn't help that my friends don't get it and think i'm overreacting and stressing out for no reason. in the past i cut out alcohol completely, now i only drink during my period..tequila & salt get me through even the worst first days lol i try to follow pregnancy guidelines for food & EO's. i had been cutting out/down exercise but i am training for a tough mudder in august so i'm going to pray that it doesn't effect anything.

Like maybe if I paint our room red and make it romantic, or (we are big geeks) maybe we need "love" (cylon ref from battle star galactica), would a pagen fertility ritual help?, can I positive think this baby into existence? Then my poor brains like "stfu I'm trying to vacuum" please tell me I'm not the only one that tries to calm their nerves with mericule cures that aren't real and I'm not even trying? Well, except for the bedroom that sounds fun.

  • @WishUponAChild‌ hilarious! I too think about how I could positively think this baby into existence. There are so many people who talk about the power of the brain and how it can do miraculous things. Unfortunately hasn't worked yet!

This is the first cycle where I calculated the implantation date based on when I O'ed.  I'm going to make sure I keep it very low key for that 2-3 day window. I don't understand why IVF transfers are told to rest for 24-48 hours but IUIs are not. Shouldn't we rest?  Maybe not bed rest persay, but take it easy more so than usual?

  • I am still new to this world and am learning so much each day. But, if I was going to wing an UNEDUCATED answer to your question I would think maybe with IUI they are only putting sperm in you and it works like "normal" (find egg, takes it to dinner, then become one), but with IVF they are putting a fertilized egg in you and they need that sucker to just stick to the lining. Just my thoughts...

  • I do nothing different. In fact I actually make a point of drinking wine and eating sushi the day or two before I start testing just in case its the last time!

I have found that in the past when I try to restrict diet and exercise and alcohol that it just makes me super stressed out and feeling unhealthy and obviously didn't result in a success, so I say eff it. My doctor said it doens't matter anyway until the umbilical cord is formed so with us finding out so early we'll have cut that stuff out long before it will have an effect.

Totally get the jinxing it thing with the maxi pads though! I had a similar moment earlier this month. I haven't bought ANY new clothes in months thinking I'd get pregnant soon and then I'd be mad I wasted the money but went on a shopping BINGE in June lol. I thought I would update... So normally I don't do those little funny suggested things that just pop into my head. This weekend was different. I was standing in line at costco and saw the largest box of maxi's I have ever seen. My husband wasn't there but I figured I could leave my cart in line to run over and grab them. I got this huge Cubes foot of Maxi's! at the very least a years worth it was the biggest box they had. I headed back to the cart and saw my husband who was looking at the largest box of feminine products he had ever seen. With a big smile I said. "I am buying these so we get pregnant this month." There is a semblance of  emotional logic in there somewhere...
My husband and I have a year's supply of most toiletries stocked in our attic (rural area + volatile job market = don't want to worry about buying it if money is short that month). We've maintained this for about 2 years now (including feminine products)...still not pregnant. LOL

I am insane about during my 2ww. I have all kinds of routines, my DH just looks at me and smiles.

    1. I eat more healthy, no fried foods. (I love fried foods) I don't like caffeine, so I don't have to give that up.

    2. I drink waaaaayy more water. My RE said a hydrated uterus is a happy uterus.

    3. I drink Pomegrante juice, at least 8 ounces a day.

    4. I eat brazil nuts and walnuts.

    5. And I keep socks on all day long! My RE also said warm feet, warm uterus.

    6. Eat the core of a pineapple for 5 days after ovulation.

    7. I daily visualize the egg implanting into the uterus. This worked years ago before I met DH, I visualized meeting a man that really looked a lot like him.

I'm trying to make my uterus a five star hotel, for the little eggie.

  • I love it...I, too, was refraining from shopping for new clothes until recently where I spent wayyyyy too much money on retail therapy! Also, I'm trying to keep a positive mind set as much as possible (there's a lot to be said for a positive attitude!)

    Good luck all!
