Breastfeeding

tell me how was your period once it came back

I had a period 6 months after baby was born. I am still breastfeeding, but skipped this month. I highly doubt I am pregnant, but wanted to find out if for the most part, our bodies take a while to get back to normal. What was your experience?

Re: tell me how was your period once it came back

  • agree with PPs that many people's periods are pretty wonky while BFing. mine came back at 12 months. my cycles have all been long since then, generally around 35 days, although one was as short as 29 days and there were a couple that were closer to 40. i also had raging PMS for a while there.

What they said. My first was 16 months PP and was crazy heavy. The next came right when expected and was still very heavy. Since then it's been very irregular and sometimes really light others heavier..

  • Mine actually returned about 6 weeks pp. (boo). I am now at 7 months and it really has been wonky. One month I got af then two weeks later I got it again. Then I had two cycles that were unbelievably heavy. I'm about due for my next cycle so I am curious what it's going to do.

Mine returned at 7 months and was super light for 3-4 days, then the next month it was super heavy for 7-8 days, and then the next month I was pregnant... It wasn't as regular as I had been pre-pregnancy (like clockwork while I was on BC!), but it was within a couple days of normal.

  • From the time my period came back till I got pregnant with this baby my cycle was anywhere from 21 days to 60 days, usually somewhere in the mid 20's. I weaned during the first trimester because I couldn't tolerate nursing any more (we had been down to less than 10 minutes a day anyhow).
  • I didn't get mine for a year, until a month after I stopped nursing. The first 5 or 6 were awful, but then it got better! Good luck.
