TTM about teething remedies

LO is starting to cut teeth. We're doing the cold teething toys and I'm trying the Orajel teething ointment. Any other tips and tricks that work?

Have you thought about an amber teething necklace? They've been highly recommended to me but haven't used one yet.

Also, a friend just linked to this on FB about the use of Oragel, FWIW.

  • We have an amber necklace, though I dont think he is teething yet. We also have the mesh feeders for when we actually start him on food.

  • I'm an infrequent poster, but I'm a big believer in science based medicine. Here is some information about teething I found helpful from a great source:

  • They were recalled but have been "reformulated" and are back on the market. They're also homeopathic, which is really just quackery. :)

  • @adinashoshana - lots of the herbal stuff isn't FDA approved, including things like Fenugreek for lactation support (because it's "natural" it's not "required" to be).  I wish it were...

@jenni812 - quackery or not, my nieces went from crying like crazy to chill as cucumbers in a few heartbeats with them...

Just to be clear, I'm not saying I will/won't use them.  OP asked for other tips that worked and these worked for my nieces!  :-)

  • My pediatrician also advised against Orajel of any kind due to it being a choking hazard... but all are different. I would suggest an Amber Teething Necklace!

  • I think LOs amber teething necklace works. But for all I know it's a placebo effect. My pug stole it, and LO was crazy cranky for days. Perfect timeing? DH thinks it's snake oil sold to sleep deprived desprite moms.
