Babies: 3 - 6 Months

No longer sttn

My baby will be 4 months on July 5 and was sleeping 6-8 hours uninterrupted at night until a few weeks ago. He started waking every 3-4 hours needing to feed and now it's every 2-3 hours. I'm exhausted, more so than when he was a newborn. He gets 3 naps a day. He won't take a pacifier and never really has liked them. He still always falls asleep on his own at night without a problem and goes right back to sleep after a short feed (usually under 10 minutes). Any advice? Will he go back to sttn anytime soon?

I actually already read the kellymom article and the other first 20 or so search results from my google search, and don't think it's what is talked about at kellymom. He gets plenty to eat (bottles of expressed milk at daycare and we clusterfeed when he gets home...he isn't distracted one bit ). He actually sleeps fine if he's on his back. He even sleeps great on his stomach until he wakes up and I think realizes he's stuck that way. But when I flip him he just rolls back immediately and won't calm down.

I'm not sure what to tell you except it still sounds like the 4 month wakeful and to ride it out.
She's right... it does sound like the 4 month wakeful.  It's not always caused by distractibility/not eating enough during the day.  Babies are going through a ton during this time with all of the different milestones they're working hard on reaching.  It also looks different in different kids. Some moms talk about how their LOs wake every couple of hours for a few weeks while others don't notice a difference at all.  My guy switches off every few days... one night he'll awake every 2-3 hours, another night he'll sleep for 8 hours but then is up at 4 wide awake.  I just try to go with it and tend to what LO needs in the moment.
  • I feel your pain! Same thing here for a couple weeks now. Hoping it's over soon!
  • Yeah, my DS was STTN at 8 weeks and by week 13 that was over. Sleep has never gotten back on track since the 4MW. He used to be really easy to settle for the night.

He's 8 months now and on a good week he'll STTN 3 or 4 times.

Sounds like the 4MW and like PPs said, not much you can do. Once we had to quit swaddling (he was 14 or 15 weeks I think) we went through 6-8 wake-ups every night until he figured out how to move around and get comfortable.

I got a break last night and he only woke twice after an 8pm bedtime. I finally got some decent sleep! But yea, not expecting the same thing tonight!
