An Update

DS had his evaluation by EI two weeks ago.  I expressed my concerns about his development (no pointing to show me things and no waving at 15.5 months).  The team- speech, development and PT asked a boat load of questions which DH and I answered- and provided them with a list of concerns and a list of things that DS is doing that seem positive.  At the end of their observation and our talk, they stated that they feel he is on track and doing well and does not qualify for EI.  I'm still waiting on the final paperwork, but the sheet they wrote up and gave me at the evaluation scored DS lowest in speech/expressive language (84) and highest in social skills/interaction at 110-  you have to hit 77 or below to qualify for services.  They felt he was very engaged with both DH and I and with them as they conducted their activities. As for my concerns, they said they observed many other examples of joint attention.  And he responded to his name for them even in the midst of all the hubbub going on with five adults in our living room.

So....for now I guess I just kind of wait and observe.  I'm still trying to sort out if when DS brings me things, which is happening more, if it's to show me or just give to me.  I am watching him like a hawk.  And I still worry.  I can't tell if this is "intuition" or my own anxious tendencies (I definitely have anxiety issues and have been convinced that something bad is definitely happening in the past when it wasn't).

DS's 18 month check up is at the end of August.  My plan is to watch and observe him over the next two months.  His walking just really took off about two weeks ago (from 80% crawling and 20% walking to 90% walking and 10% crawling) and both his pedi and the EI folks believe that a language burst is on the horizon, too.  We'll see.  In the meantime, I have made an appointment to talk to a counselor for me, because whether or not something is wrong, the anxiety I have been feeling is not good and I have not been handling it in a healthy way.  I also called an evaluation center recommended by some local moms on this board to see what their wait list/wait time would be should I get to 18 months and still have concerns.   They said that for young children (under 3), they fast track them for appointments and the wait shouldn't be more than a month.

So that's where we are.  I may or may not be back to ask for advice, but I wanted to say thank you to those who reached out to me and answered my questions.
